“I’ve never truly believed he held this much importance,” Hera whispered quietly to herself, as if trying to calm the fluttering anxiety inside her. “Besides, it’s only been a few days since we last saw each other. There’s no way he could come up with 2.8 million dollars. Eventually, he’ll realize he has no other option but to come back to me.”
She lingered in the corner of the room, her fingers nervously smoothing out the creases on her blouse. A heavy sigh escaped her lips. “Oh, Sebastian…”
Everything that had unfolded recently seemed to circle back to him. Edge Inc. was facing multiple crises, exactly as Sebastian had foreseen. Hera had wanted to review the analyses again, hoping to find a solution, but the papers were nowhere to be found at home.
Those documents held the key to mitigation strategies!
Now, Hera felt trapped, forced to cling to whatever hope she could muster. Yet, the reality was grim—Edge was dangerously close to losing its working capital. The situation was so critical that she had no choice but to play her final card: securing an investment from Baron Inc. by showcasing their most promising project.
“Sebastian doesn’t matter right now,” Hera muttered under her breath, steeling herself. “Our goal is to win that investment. Because I refuse to sell his parents’ property just to escape this mess.”
Letting Sebastian go had never been part of her plan. That property was the last lifeline she had left, a tether to their shared past. She had deliberately set the price so high that it would be impossible for him to meet—forcing his hand to return to her. That property was untouchable, no matter what.
Taking a deep breath, Hera spent a couple of minutes gathering her composure. She pushed aside any lingering thoughts of Sebastian and walked into the conference room where the Project Investment Forum was about to begin.
Lucas glanced at her pass, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studied her.
“Hera Bishop from Edge Inc.,” he read aloud, his tone curious.
There was something familiar about her face. Why did she seem so recognizable?
Lucas’s sharp business instincts told him something was off. Why would Sebastian split investment requests with his wife? Something else must have happened between them.
Given the uncertainty, Lucas decided it was best to keep Sebastian’s presence under wraps.
“By the way, Mr. Goldman is currently meeting with an important client. The Forum will be delayed by about half an hour. Please bear with us,” he added politely.
“Understood. Thank you for letting me know,” Hera responded smoothly, showing no hint of suspicion as she headed toward the elevator.
Lucas wiped the sweat from his brow, puzzled. Why did she act as if she had no idea her husband was here, meeting with his employer? Why did it feel like they were strangers rather than a married couple?
