“This color is perfect! Honestly, even the box alone would have made me happy,” Oralia breathed, cradling the package like it was something fragile and precious. She carefully lifted the lid, and when the glittering necklace was revealed, her words failed her.
“It’s the… regional limited edition. You actually found one…” Oralia’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears.
“Come on now, you’re a full–grown adult. Are you seriously about to cry over some jewelry?” Chloe picked up her mojito, her movements smooth and relaxed.
Oralia snapped the box shut and held it protectively against her chest as if guarding a national treasure. She then reached for her own drink, a sly grin spreading across her face.
“So, my agency is organizing a promo event with live acts. Wanna take a guess who showed up on the performer list? Jennifer.”
At the mention of the name, Chloe’s eyes lifted to meet Oralia’s.
“Can
you believe the nerve? She thought she could perform at my event! I had her booted from the lineup right away.” Oralia leaned in closer, her voice dropping. “That woman makes my skin crawl. I seriously feel like beating the crap out of her for you–make her regret ever breathing the same air as you!”
Chloe swirled the ice in her glass, a faint, cool smile touching her lips. “Why end the game so quickly? Letting them off that easily seems like a waste.”
“And Arthur, that fool. When I first heard you’d married him, I thought he was the complete package–looks, money, stability. Now I see he’s just a blind, pathetic mess. He wants everything but deserves absolutely nothing. If he ever crosses a line with me, I’ll personally make sure he’s begging for mercy.” Oralia’s hands tightened into fists, a spark of genuine anger flashing in her eyes.
“Don’t waste your energy on people like that. But speaking of you–Robert let it slip that you’re looking at houses here in Capaville?” Chloe’s demeanor shifted, her gaze becoming more direct and serious.
Oralia straightened up, looking like a student who’d just been caught passing notes in class. She let out a sheepish laugh.
“That little snitch! I knew I shouldn’t have told him,” Oralia grumbled under her breath before brightening again. “Well, of course! I wanted the house right next to yours. We’d be perfect neighbors!”
Chloe studied Oralia’s hopeful expression, which seemed at odds with her tough, leather–clad

Unbeknownst to Chloe, a small entourage had just entered the club. The manager caught sight of them and hurried over at once.
“Mr. Voss, we had no idea you were coming tonight!” The manager bowed slightly, his manner obsequious as he quickly offered Landon a cigarette.
Landon ignored the gesture, his eyes doing a quick sweep of the crowded space. “If I don’t show my face occasionally, people might forget who actually owns this place,” he remarked dryly.
The manager offered a nervous smile. “Had we known in advance, we could have prepared a private area for you. It’s particularly busy tonight, but our revenue continues to grow steadily. You can rest assured.”
Landon made a vague noise to reply. He began heading toward the staircase leading to the private rooms but suddenly halted midway, his attention caught by something in a dimly lit
corner.
His brow furrowed as he stared intently across the room.
The manager followed his gaze and saw what had captured his boss’s attention–a couple seated together. The “man” was exceptionally handsome, with the polished look of a magazine model. The woman possessed a quiet elegance and natural poise. Though dressed simply, her beauty was undeniable.
No wonder her companion was so good–looking!
The manager moved to block Landon’s view, forcing a smile. “Mr. Voss, they’re just regular patrons. If that type of woman interests you, perhaps we could—”
“Get out of my way.” Landon cut him off, pushing past him.
His
eyes remained fixed on the corner. At first glance, he’d been taken aback–this was a nightclub, and Chloe was a mother now. It seemed unlikely she would frequent such places.
But after a second, longer look, he was certain. The face was unmistakably Chloe’s, and she was sitting intimately across from some… pretty boy.
A pretty boy!
Was this what women preferred these days?
So slender, with hardly any substance to him. What did he have besides a pretty face? How could that possibly be satisfying?
Landon caught himself mentally comparing his own build to the stranger’s, feeling an
