Tonight, she didn’t need to put on a show. All she had to do was stand quietly next to Arthur. Everyone would see that by the side of Arthur, the renowned master of the prestigious Myers family in Capaville, stood none other than her as his companion.

She didn’t need any introductions. People’s curiosity would do the work for her.

A calm voice came from behind. Madilyn turned and saw a middle–aged couple walking toward them, all smiles. She recognized them as the Fords, who had done some business with the Myers family in the past. Madilyn gave them a polite smile.

“Mr. Ford, what a coincidence meeting you here,” she said. She didn’t think much of the Ford family, but she kept things pleasant. “How have you been?”

“Business is going well, thank you,” Mark Ford replied. “We’ve secured a few international projects recently, so profits are up. We were lucky to get an invitation to Mr. Slade’s charity dinner tonight. And we run into you right at the door!” Virginia added, beaming as she held her husband’s arm. “Dear, let’s go in with Mrs. Myers. I’m sure we’re seated in the same section, right?”

She lightly waved her invitation card as she spoke.

Madilyn was just about to explain that the dinner had different seating areas–gold invitations and silver invitations meant different zones–when she noticed the gold invitation in Virginia’s hand.

A cold look flashed in Madilyn’s eyes. Had the Ford family really risen so high that they rated a gold invitation now? Or had they simply bought their way in?

Virginia picked up on the shift but kept smiling. “You’re right, we’ll know soon enough.” She gave her gold invitation another little wave, making sure it was seen.

Madilyn’s eyes showed a hint of disdain. Showing off over a gold invitation? How tacky.

Virginia then glanced at Jennifer, her smile widening. “And Arthur, who is this lovely lady with you?”

Jennifer didn’t answer. She just offered a polite smile back.
