Chloe turned smoothly to face the group walking over. “If you all get to be here, why can’t I?”

Madilyn let out a cold laugh. “Do you even get how exclusive Mistveil Manor is? No one gets in without an invite. You got one? Who asked you to come?”

Chloe raised her eyebrows a little. She thought for a second–Landon had taken care of her invitation, but she honestly had no idea who sent the invitation.

Seeing Chloe hesitate, Madilyn’s tone sharpened even more. “Look at you. Think you’re so smart, huh? Heard about this fancy party and decided to crash it to find some rich guy, right? That’s your big plan?”

Madilyn still saw Chloe as that small–town girl. Without the Myers family backing her, she was sure Chloe would go back to being nobody. The Lewis family had cut her off, so she wasn’t some privileged lady

anymore.

Now Chloe had nothing–no money, no status, no pull.

She’d been with Arthur before, so she probably knew how exclusive this event was. So today, she must be trying to sneak in to hook a wealthy partner.

Fat chance.

Madilyn linked her arm through Arthur’s, playing her part perfectly. “Arthur, let’s go inside! Your date tonight is Jennifer. Don’t waste another minute on people who don’t matter.”

Arthur didn’t answer his mom. Instead, he just kept staring at Chloe. He couldn’t get the image of her arrival out of his head.

Stunning! She looked absolutely amazing!

But when that beauty was Chloe, Arthur always felt a little unreal.

“Chloe, I’m not taking you inside with me,” Arthur said coldly. Just thinking about how easily she’d asked for a divorce made him mad. Right then, he wanted her to regret ever leaving him.

When Chloe heard Arthur’s words, her soft smile vanished right away.

Had Arthur lost his mind? Where did he get this confidence?

think he was? Did he really believe she needed his help to get in?

This fool actually thought she’d come here begging him to let her into the party?

Chloe ignored Arthur completely. She looked toward the staff checking invitations at the entrance and started walking over. But then Jennifer’s voice called out from behind.

“Chloe, tonight’s event is a big deal,” Jennifer said gently. “If you really want to get in, maybe you should apologize to Arthur. If you’re sincere enough, he might change his mind. Both Mrs. Myers and Arthur could bring you in as their guest.”

Chapter 11 No invite No Apologies

When Jennifer mentioned “Mrs. Myers, Madilyn snorted loudly. “Misvell Manor invited our family specifically, Anyone not with us has nothing to do with us. Jennifer, why are you sticking up for her? Forgor you’re Arthur’s date tonight?”

“Mrs. Myers. Chloe came all this way—she must have her reasons, Jennifer said softly. “If she wants to go in with Arthur, I don’t mind stepping aside. Really, it’s fine.”

Madilyn glanced at Chloe and laughed coldly. “I told you before–once you left our family, don’t even think about coming back. If a simple sorry fixed everything, we wouldn’t need police, would we?”

Chloe just smiled at Jennifer’s little show.

Chloc, Mom’s right,” Arthur said, sounding annoyed. “You chose to leave. You gave up all the perks that came with being with our family. Whatever happens now is on you. If you’re regretting it and think a quick ‘sorry‘ will make everything better, you never really got our family. No matter what you do today, I’m not taking you inside.”

He was the CEO of Myers Group–every woman’s dream guy, for crying out loud. Chloe had demanded a divorce without even talking it over, without any give–and–take, like their six years together meant nothing.

He already agreed to the divorce. What else could she possibly want?

“Arthur!” Chloe suddenly called his name, her voice sharp and clear, cutting through the tension in the air.

When Arthur heard her, a look of disgust flashed in his eyes. He stared at Chloe, waiting for her to start begging for forgiveness.

“Finally regretting it, huh-”

Arthur didn’t get to finish. Chloe held up a finger to her lips, telling him to be quiet.

Arthur froze, totally confused by her gesture.
