Chapter 123 Who’s in Charge?
The man in the suit tried to sound authoritative. “That’s enough talk from you. Get her out of here.”
Two staff members moved forward, their expressions grim, and reached for Chloe’s arms.
But Chloe didn’t back away. She stood perfectly still, not even blinking.
“Stop!”
Just as their hands were about to touch her, a sharp command cut through the air.
All heads turned toward the grand staircase. A middle–aged man with blond hair stood on the landing.
He wore gold–rimmed glasses and was scanning the banquet hall below. When his eyes found Chloe, his face tightened. He immediately started hurrying down the steps.
Seeing the blond man, the suit guy grinned, feeling triumphant.
Joe Mull was here—the man in charge of running the entire Mistveil Manor.
The guests recognized him at once. Anyone who had ever been to an event here knew Joe, the man in charge.
People instinctively shuffled back, clearing a wide circle around Chloe.
Joe reached the bottom of the stairs. His gaze swept over the crowd, paused on Chloe, then moved to Arthur and his group. When he spotted Madilyn, his expression turned stormy.
A noticeable chill fell over the room. Joe was angry, and the temperature seemed to drop with his mood.
Seeing his displeasure, Jennifer felt a thrill. Perfect. The big shot had shown up. Chloe was finished now.
Arthur shot a look at Chloe. Joe’s presence meant Joseph had arrived and the event was starting. If Joseph discovered someone had used a forged pass, his fury would be unstoppable. No one could save Chloe then.
If he intervened now on her behalf, the Myers family might be banned alongside her. They’d never receive another invitation.
He briefly considered saying it was a misunderstanding, that Chloe was his guest. But when he weighed the potential fallout, he chickened out.

He was here with Jennifer tonight. Chloe had brought this on herself with her reckless behavior. She would have to face the consequences alone.
Arthur took another step back, positioning himself squarely between Madilyn and Jennifer, putting on a mask of detached indifference.
“Mr. Mull, we have a situation with a counterfeit invitation,” the man in the suit said, his tone dripping with sycophancy.
He pointed accusingly at Chloe. “We were removing her, but she keeps making wild claims that I’ll be sorry. It’s ridiculous. I’ve handled countless events and never encountered someone so insolent.”
Joe raised an eyebrow, giving the man a look that could only be described as profoundly unimpressed. “Is that so?”
The man in the suit, completely missing the cue, puffed out his chest with pride.
“Absolutely, sir. I’ve double–checked the list. There is no ‘Chloe‘ registered among the gold or silver invitation holders tonight.” He threw a smug glance at Chloe, remembering her earlier warning. He almost laughed out loud.
He’d been in this job for years with a perfect record. He never made mistakes, especially not in front of Joe. He knew how things worked around here.
How dare this woman act so high and mighty? He’d see who was regretting their actions soon enough!
He snapped at the two security guards, “Why are you just standing there? Remove her! She’s an eyesore to this event!”
But the guards didn’t budge. They remained frozen, their eyes locked on Joe, waiting for his order.
Joe stared at the man in the suit, with a look like he was dealing with a total idiot.
The suit guy finally noticed the guards‘ hesitation and glared at them. He turned back to Joe, ready to offer more flattery, but before he could get a word out, Joe cut him off with an icy
tone.
“Yeah. Having someone like you here is indeed a serious eyesore. I’m disappointed the estate employs folks with such poor judgment.”
