Chapter 222 The Unwelcome Gift

The whole place was buzzing with happiness. Who wouldn’t love a fancy LV scarf? Even the guys were all smiles—after all, they had wives or girlfriends who’d be thrilled.

The good vibes kept rolling. People couldn’t stop talking about how kind and thoughtful Carolyn was. A welcome gift like that? No one was turning it down.

Emily quietly handed out the LV scarves. When there were a few left, she brought them over to Carolyn.

“Carolyn, these are the extras.”

Carolyn glanced toward Chloe and Robert, then raised an eyebrow. “We still have people here, right? Make sure everyone gets one. I don’t want anyone saying I left them out.”

Emily looked at Chloe, took two scarves, and set them on the table. “Ms. Chloe Lewis, this one’s for you. Please take it.”

Chloe eyed the nicely wrapped box. These LV scarves were the newest style. She didn’t even need to ask who was behind it–getting so many of the latest items meant someone had serious connections.

Carolyn! Where did she get off acting like this was all hers? Just because her last name was Lewis?

“Miss, are you sure these belong to you?” Robert tilted his head, looking up at Emily with big, curious eyes.

Emily froze, then turned toward Carolyn.

Carolyn lifted her chin, looking pleased with herself. “Robert, if these aren’t mine… then they’re yours?”

“It’s not like you’re the only Ms. Lewis here. How do you know they’re yours?” Robert’s smile turned a little sharp. “My teachers taught me: if something isn’t yours, don’t take it. If you take what belongs to others, things won’t end well for you.”

When he said “things won’t end well,” Carolyn’s face tightened. She glared at the kid, annoyed. Sure, he was a Myers, but since Chloe and Arthur split, he wasn’t part of the Myers family anymore. Just an outsider. And he had the nerve to talk back?

Who did he think he was?

“Chloe, did you teach him this? Your kid’s got a real mouth on him. Now that you’re not with the Myers or the Lewis family, can you even afford his kindergarten?” Carolyn kept her voice

low, but her tone was biting. “Aren’t you some big–shot founder? Shouldn’t be short on cash. But if you are… I could lend you some.”

Emily still had a couple of scarves left and wasn’t sure who to give them to.

“Emily, get those ready. Mr. Merrow and Oralia will be here soon. Give them their gifts first. My kindness is for people who appreciate it. Those who don’t… well, they don’t deserve it.”

Emily glanced at Chloe and Robert, said nothing, and put the extra scarves aside.

She had already set aside ones for Brian and Oralia. There was one left, so she offered it to Carolyn.

“Carolyn, this one’s yours. Where should I put it?”

Carolyn looked at the beautifully wrapped scarf. She’d wanted this one before, but she’d spent her allowance too fast. Now, with Henry snapping his fingers and getting so many, a basic scarf didn’t impress her anymore. She wanted the high–end, fully custom pieces—the kind that cost a fortune and were one–of–a–kind.

Henry went to all this trouble to make her happy. If she whined a little, wouldn’t he give her anything?

Already thinking about what to ask for next, Carolyn waved a hand. “You keep that one. You’ve worked hard.”

“Thank you, Carolyn.” Emily put it away carefully, then placed Oralia’s and Brian’s scarves in their spots.

Carolyn watched and smirked. “Some people… I bet they’ve never held anything this nice in their lives.”

So what if Chloe was a designer? Designers still had to pay. And now that Chloe wasn’t with the Myers or the Lewis family, she was nobody.

Fancy job titles didn’t mean a thing.

“Some people have a hide as thick as an elephant’s. They take what isn’t theirs and act like they own the place. It’s pretty obvious who the real joke is here.” Robert stretched lazily. “Mommy, not every show is worth watching. Some are plain annoying.”
