“Arthur is the president of Myers Group. He has status, he’s accomplished, and everyone in Capaville knows the influence Myers Group holds. Besides, what’s wrong with a successful man having the other woman? Doesn’t that just prove his charm? As his wife, you just need to be understanding–that’s what matters.
Monique said this, then adopted a serious tone. “Go change out of those strange clothes and freshen up. Your father and I will take you back to the Myers Manor first thing tomorrow morning to apologize. Act a little coquettishly toward Arthur, and this whole matter will blow over.”
“Dad! Did you hear what Monique said? Looks like you really haven’t gotten it right all these years!” Chloe suddenly smiled and deftly turned the spotlight onto Scott.
Monique was stunned when Chloe addressed her as Monique. Since Chloe had been found and brought home, she had never called her. Hearing it now, out of the blue, left Monique momentarily stunned.
Scott was equally taken aback. Since Chloe’s return to the Lewis family, they had rarely spoken properly. Now, hearing her call him “Dad“, some of his anger dissipated.
After all, Chloe was still his daughter.
Just as Monique said, Chloe’s duty was to support Arthur and raise Robert. She couldn’t throw a tantrum over every minor issue. He was considering taking her back to the Myers Manor to apologize. But before he could voice this thought, Chloe’s next words pissed him off.
“She said every successful man has the other woman. Dad, you should find yourself some pretty young things too. That’s the real mark of a successful man.”
“Chloe, you-” Scott’s anger instantly reignited.
Monique’s face darkened. “Chloe, what’s gotten into you? How can you joke about your father like that?”
“Oh, so you recognize this as a joke?” Chloe’s expression turned cold and arrogant. “I figured you were so open–minded, maybe you’d even help pick out some young models for him! The younger, the better!”
“You…” Monique was so furious her face flushed crimson. She pointed a trembling finger at Chloe. If Scott hadn’t been present, she likely would have lunged at Chloe and torn her mouth shut.
Six years apart, and Chloe had transformed into this sharp–tongued creature. When she was first brought back, she barely spoke and seemed so malleable.
“You… you… I am deeply disappointed in you.”
Scott’s hands trembled, his eyes blazing with rage.
“Well, since you’re already disappointed, we might as well see this through to the end!” Chloe said with feigned helplessness. “Just so you know, I signed the divorce papers and left the Myers family with nothing, just to get away from Arthur as quickly as possible. You’ve seen it yourself–I’m working an outside job just to put food on the table.”
Scott was lost for words.
“Dad, I grew up in the countryside and never saw much of the world. Robert has already left Eaton

Kindergarten, and I still have to raise my son. Money is really tight. Could you write me a check, lend me some money?” Chloe forced a pitiful smile, doing her best to look utterly sincere.
“You…” Scott was so shocked by her words his eyes widened, his finger shaking as he pointed at her. “You actually…”
“I know you love me the most, Dad. If that’s really not possible, I’ll just move back with Robert!” Chloe pretended to ponder for a moment. “I’ve always loved my old bedroom. It’s been my favorite since I was little. Could you ask Starla to clean it up for me? Robert and I will move right in. It’ll be perfect.”
“No way…” Carolyn blurted out, but a sharp look from Monique silenced her.
“Got a problem, Carolyn?” Chloe looked at Carolyn and smiled sweetly. “Don’t tell me you’ve taken my bedroom?”
Carolyn froze, suddenly nervous because Chloe had hit the nail on the head.
“Chloe, I’m sorry.” Monique interjected, her eyes welling up with fake tears. “I’ve carried this guilt all these years. You were alone in the countryside, and that environment shaped who you are now. I know life has been hard for you out there. Your mom passed away so early, and as your stepmother, I failed in my duty to care for you properly. I truly blame myself.
Monique sighed heavily, then shifted her tone to one of regret. “But you’re so headstrong now, burning all your bridges. What will you do in the future? Even if I want to help you, to take care of you, I don’t know where to begin.”
