“Arthur. I’m truly sorry about all those outrageous stories in the press. I’ll handle this Jennifer clutched Jenarth tightly, her voice trembling but resolute. “I’ll hold a press conference and explain everything clearly. The ring belongs to Chloe. You and Chloe are the married couple. Jenarth isn’t your son–Robert is.”
Between the sobbing and the explanations, Arthur’s head was spinning.
He hadn’t come home looking for a fight or to blame Jennifer. The sound of their crying grated on his ears, worsening his already foul mood.
Arthur had only learned about the media frenzy after the fact. By then, even the story about Jennifer wearing Chloe’s ring had gone viral.
He’d been in a crucial international strategy meeting all day, his phone off. Dozens of calls had tried to reach him, but he’d ignored them all. The moment the meeting adjourned, his assistant, Donald, briefed him on the whole mess.

It was far too late to contain the rumors. The news was everywhere now–impossible to clean up.
Hearing Jennifer offer to clear his name just made Arthur feel more helpless.
How could she possibly fix this?
If she told the truth, everyone would know he was married to Chloe and that Robert was his legitimate son. But with Jennifer and Jenarth living under his roof, if the fans discovered the reality, the backlash against them would likely be even worse.
Arthur knew he bore some responsibility for the situation Jennifer and Jenarth were in.
Chloe had already divorced him. There was nothing left to salvage there.
“Jennifer, don’t trouble yourself with it. Just ignore the media. The news cycle will move on in a few days, and this will all blow over,” Arthur said, his voice weary. He’d been fielding calls all day–including one from his mother, Madilyn.
Just thinking about what Madilyn had told him made his headache intensify.
Chloe had severed all ties with the Lewis family. She’d gone back there, demanding money, demanding to move back in, and even insisting Monique repay years of withheld allowance,
She had asked for the moon, acted unreasonably, and finally pushed Scott so far that he disowned her for good.
How could Chloe sink to such behavior?
Was she that hard up for cash?
He had personally transferred 180 million dollars to her account. Before he could even look into it further, Madilyn called, informing him how Chloe had blown through the entire sum.

If Chloe managed that kind of money wisely, her future would be secured. But she just couldn’t sit still. The moment the money hit her account, she funneled it into some obscure trust fund–one nobody had ever heard of. Investing like that? She was practically throwing her future away.
When Madilyn had initially opposed transferring money, Arthur thought she was being unfair. After all, Chloe was still his wife and the mother of his child. She needed means to live after the divorce.
If he had known Chloe would pull a stunt like this, he wouldn’t have given her a single cent.
“Arthur, I’m sorry. This ring belongs to Chloe. She left it behind. If you ever see her again, please apologize to her for me.” Jennifer pressed the ring firmly into Arthur’s palm, then turned, grabbed Jenarth’s hand, and heaved their bulky suitcase forward.
“Jenarth, Mommy is taking you away from here.”
“Mommy, do we really have to go? I like it here. I like Daddy Arthur.” Jenarth looked up at Jennifer with red- rimmed eyes, his voice pleading.
“Mommy will take care of you. It’s alright. We’ll get through the hard times together.” Jennifer forced a fragile smile, made no move to wipe her tears, and tried to pull Jenarth toward the door.
Arthur stared down at the ring in his hand. He’d had that 18–million–dollar diamond ring custom–made–it was one of a kind. Chloe could have taken it, but she had refused, stating she wanted nothing from him.
