“What kind of prize?” Nancy pressed, stepping closer.

The manager smiled politely. “This lady is our lucky 88,888th customer this year. She wins our secret grand prize!” He turned to his staff. “Please bring her another item of equal value to her purchase.”
Nancy stared in disbelief. Was this for real?
A staff member promptly retrieved the blue diamond ring from the display case–the very one Chloe and Robert had admired earlier.
“This ring is a regional limited edition, the only one in our counter,” a shop assistant explained, carefully placing it into a velvet box alongside the necklace Chloe had just bought.
Chloe observed the proceedings calmly. “Thank you.”
“But that’s not all,” the manager continued. “As part of the prize, anything you select in our mall today will be complimentary.”
The surrounding staff exchanged surprised glances. A free shopping spree? In the Belle Mall where nothing was cheap?
“Thanks, you’re too kind,” Chloe replied.
Nancy stood frozen, watching the scene unfold. She couldn’t believe it. How did Chloe get so lucky?
The general manager himself had come to present this unbelievable prize. If Chloe wanted, she could walk out with the entire boutique’s inventory.
Under any other circumstances, Nancy would have suspected that Chloe had bribed people to act with her. But the manager was a well–known figure in the business world. He wouldn’t stage something like this for a nobody like Chloe.
So it was real. Chloe had actually won.
Why does she get all the luck? Nancy felt her anger rising.
She glanced at Carolyn, whose face was openly furious. From the moment the “prize” was announced, Carolyn had been seething. But before she could voice any doubt, the reality of the situation hit her.
Chloe’s luck was simply unreal.
They had entered the shopping mall right after Chloe. If only they had known about this promotion, they would have rushed in first–and the prize would have been theirs.
So annoying!
The initial skepticism from the crowd had completely vanished, replaced by pure envy. All eyes were on Chloe, the human lucky charm.
Nancy’s earlier arrogance had evaporated. Now she just wanted to disappear.

She remembered her bold promise to buy out the entire counter and had no idea how to save face. Her family was wealthy, but not that wealthy. Her parents gave her a lot of pocket money–she could buy at necklace or a bag without hesitation, but she simply couldn’t afford to buy out the entire jewelry counter.
Her father would kill her if she tried such a thing.
Nancy desperately wanted to leave. She checked that everyone was still focused on Chloe, then tugged at Carolyn’s sleeve.
But Carolyn didn’t budge. She stayed put and shot Nancy a meaningful look.
Nancy followed Carolyn’s gaze. At that moment, the jewelry in a display cabinet not far from them was laid out on the counter–it was a ruby ring, made of high–quality material, priced at over one hundred thousand dollars. Its design was quite eye–catching, and as the boutique’s featured style, it was placed in the most prominent position.
One look was all it took. Nancy understood exactly what Carolyn was thinking.
