He Watched Me Shine Without Him novel Chapter 69

As soon as Rose left, Houston Jefferson walked in.

His face was dark with irritation as he questioned, "Did you upset her?"

Maxwell looked at his grandson's stern face and teased, "Ryan, you're so worried about her. Could it be that you've fallen for her?"

Houston awkwardly rubbed his nose, then walked over and sat down next to him.

Maxwell sighed deeply, "This girl is ordinary, with no ambition and no pursuit. She doesn't fit the criteria for being the Clarke family's daughter-in-law. However, she has courage, pride, and her own opinions. That's truly rare. Since she's the woman you like, I have no objections."

He then changed the subject, "But, I do hope she can return to the family, be a housewife, have a few children for you, and give you a warm home to make up for the shortcomings of your childhood."

Houston was curious about Rose's reaction. "Did she agree?"

Maxwell snorted, "That girl is very proud. She said that what she pursues in her life is not fame or fortune, but her medical career."

A veil of disappointment clouded Houston's eyes.

My place in Rose's heart was not as important as her medical career, nor was it as important as Ethan Walker.

"She doesn't love me," Houston sighed.

Maxwell couldn't understand why his grandson was so submissive in marriage.

Looking at Houston's disappointed expression, he asked, "If she really doesn't want to return to the family for you, or have children for you, are you still determined to marry her?"

Houston looked at his grandfather, his eyes filled with seriousness and determination. "Grandfather, Rose and I have already gotten our marriage certificate."

Maxwell was shocked.

When he left, he was quite upset.

After leaving the café, Houston, surrounded by bodyguards, got into a business car worth tens of millions.

Coincidentally, Vivian had just come to the café to chat with her friend when she happened to see Houston coming out of the café and getting into a Roce.

Her friend, the café owner, walked over and patted her shoulder. "Vivian, do you know him?"

Vivian replied hesitantly, "He's the husband of my friend."

Her friend gasped in disbelief. "Him? Your friend's husband? No way."

Vivian was puzzled by her friend's strong reaction and looked at her questioningly. "Why not?"

"Do you know who he is?" The café owner pulled Vivian to a corner seat and told her something astonishing.

Her friend continued to warn her, "I recently heard some rumors about him. It is said that he has a violent temper and is inherently cruel. Even his grandfather's assistant seems to have been ruined by him. Her face was peeled off, and it was terrible to see."

Vivian was stunned. She couldn't associate this brutal man with Rose's gentle husband.

Thinking of how the cruel and violent Ryan was so gentle and considerate to Rose, carrying her bag and picking her up and dropping her off from work, Vivian felt an indescribable feeling. It seemed that jealousy and unwillingness filled her chest.

She was extremely resentful.

Why did every boyfriend Rose had make me so envious?

At the hospital, when the doctors temporarily convened an interdisciplinary consultation, Rose surprisingly did not show up. The director angrily asked everyone, "Who can call Dr. Marshall and tell her to come to work immediately?"

Ethan took the initiative to pick up his phone and called Rose. However, the phone said, "Sorry, the number you dialed is out of service."

Ethan was stunned.

He suddenly remembered that Rose had changed her number.

A female doctor, whose expression was somewhat ambiguous and seemed to know the inside story, dialed Rose's number in front of everyone's astonished eyes.

The call was connected.
