Liam blew up. “You’re screwing with me, Freya! Playing me like a damn fool—is that a game to you?”
“I’m not here to fight,” Freya said flatly. “Liam, let’s get a divorce.”
“No way,” he snapped, his brows knitted tight. “It’s not what you think with her.”
Freya let out a bitter laugh. “I’ve got eyes, Liam. I can see what’s going on.”
“I haven’t slept with her!” he yelled. “She’s just… forget it. If it bugs you that much, I’ll cut her off. No more contact. But divorce? Don’t even think about it.”
Freya’s voice was ice-cold. “Cut her off? You sure you can stomach that?”
“After all these years, you know how I feel about you,” Liam said. “Ask anyone we know-hell, ask some random guy on the street how I treat you. Don’t think you can walk all over me just because I’m head over heels for you, Freya.”
“I’m not walking all over you,” she fired back. “You’re the one who stabbed our marriage in the back first.”
Liam’s face twisted like she’d punched him. “I stabbed you in the back? What about you, Freya? Senior year, you spent a night in a hotel with Professor Copper!
“You think I’m blind? I never brought it up because I didn’t want to dig up old crap and ruin us. But I’m a man, Freya! How am I supposed to deal with my wife sleeping with her advisor to lock in a grad school spot?”
Freya froze. She hadn’t expected him to drag up something from seven years ago. Or that it’d been eating him alive all this time.
Her voice was sharp. “I went to that hotel with Professor Cooper because-”
“Save it,” Liam cut her off. “Ryan saw you two sneaking out of the hotel at dawn. If he hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have believed the woman I treated like a queen could be so… careless.”
He paused, his lips twitching like he’d almost said something harsher, like “slut,” but switched to “careless” at the last second.
It hit Freya like a freight train. “That is why Ryan has been giving me the stink-eye all these years. No wonder he doesn’t care about Natalie but always has it out for her.’
Liam kept going. “Since we’re laying it all out, let’s get real. Back then, I respected you. I held back because you weren’t ready.
“But then you go and check into a hotel with some old guy who could be your dad? Freya, if I didn’t love you so damn much, I would’ve walked out right then.”
“Then walk out now,” Freya said. “If you’re still hung up on that, let’s file for divorce tomorrow.”
She’d been worried he’d fight the divorce before. But now, after this blowout, she wouldn’t even need to rope

Liam shut her down again. “I’m not divorcing you. You screwed up before the wedding, I screwed up after. We’re even. Let’s just bury both and move on.”
“Liam, if it bothers you that much, why stick around? Doesn’t it suck to live with that thorn in your side?” she said.
He closed his eyes, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. “Because I love you, Freya. I’m screwed, aren’t I? Completely whipped.”
“Oh, shit!” A sudden scream came from the hallway.
