He’s an Alpha She doesn’t Care novel Chapter 35

Wynta

It was nice here in Monterey. She had a room with a balcony and had arrived just after 5pm, had taken a nice long bubble bath and ordered room service. Her room came with a nice bottle of white wine, which was sweet and fruity. She found a movie to watch while reclined comfortably in the lounge and really just relaxed for the first time all week long.

She’d had this overwhelming sense that someone was following her to and from the office all week, not that she’d seen anything suspicious, it was just a feeling and her instincts were pretty good, but she’d also not turned to look behind her or gotten jumpy about it. They were things that were signs you were nervous, and could be taken as being signs of easy prey.

So, she didn’t do that. She’d not even quickened her pack, or changed her route, had simply strolled along like she always did. It wasn’t like she couldn’t protect herself. She actually could. She even had access to and carried a can of aerosoled wolfsbane in her handbag at all times. It was quite potent, and she’d used it just twice in her time as a rogue and both is it had been very effective and given her the opportunity to get away.

It just looked like a small can of deodorant, had a pretty bottle, it was silver with little purple flowers all over it, so if that one stalking her had the hide to grab her, she would spray them and leave, although she’d felt them all the way from the office to her apartment so running there wasn’t going to be an option.

She also didn’t have wolfen speed or sense of smell, so hiding from them when they could scent her wasn’t going to be an option, and going to her place would see them just turn up there. She could, she knew, make her way to Edwards‘ new apartment building, she supposed, but that was out of the way and, with her knee as it was, going on foot, was a no–go.

She’d have to call a cab. That place did have a wolfen doorman for entry to the apartments, and she’d be able to have him provide sanctuary. But if she asked for that, would that be considered as her wanting Edwards‘ full protection and him then being able to initiate her? She didn’t know. The ground wasn’t certified wolfen pack territory, it was in the human world, as was the office building.

But if she used the word sanctuary, Edward could turn that to him, initiating her in order for her to get it. He was devious like that, but here in Monterey she was all good. No one had followed her from the physio appointment to her apartment. Though she’d not told anyone she wasn’t returning to the office, she had simply called after physio and told her team she wasn’t coming back to the office for the afternoon.

She had logged out when leaving the office, so they knew she wasn’t there. Because if she put in for leave prior to her leaving, Edward would be notified and that man would know she was ducking the full moon yet again. So she’d just not done it, it was going to annoy him, but it only made her smile.

Saturday arrived, and she had taken a nice stroll, found a café and gotten herself a tall caramel latte and was making her way back to her hotel when she heard a phrase she didn’t want to hear, and a name attached to it, that she’d not heard in over a decade, “Do you smell that, Nolan?” and she even thought she recognized the voice as Yale, Nolan’s Beta.

Wynta’s heart kind of stuttered in her chest as she thought of her ex–mate, Alpha Nolan, and his Beta, Yale. That Alpha’s name wasn’t so popular a name that she heard it everywhere, and she turned to look, partly out of curiosity, but mostly she was praying she was wrong. If it was, that meant they’d picked up on a rogue scent, her eyes moved through the crowd, and she saw him, her ex–mate and his unit.

Wynta turned her face away from them before they placed her. She’d been weaving through the crowds, and likely they had yet to figure out where she was. She was thankful that she was wearing sunglasses, and had her hair pulled up in a ponytail and was wearing everyday clothes like all those around her; jeans and a tee–shirt.

She hurriedly moved through the crowd away from them. She knew that his Beta, Yale, was talking about the rogue scent she was likely putting off. But it was the fact that it was entirely possible that Nolan, as her ex–Goddess–Gifted, could well recognize her other scents as well. Despite being a rogue, she knew she still had her natural scents of Lotus and Jasmine under that rogue scent, something Nolan himself would recognize.

She wasn’t that far from her hotel and was quick to duck inside it and make her way to the elevator and press her floor, before they could see her. Her heart was beating furiously inside her chest and every part of her told her to leave. She wasn’t afraid of him, or his unit, she just didn’t want to have to deal with him.

They had no idea what she was to him. She also didn’t know if he would try to pull her back to him. He’d once told her they would discuss it when he got home from Alpha College, only she’d not cared for that at all. Still didn’t want him, had moved away from that pack long ago in order to never have to lay eyes upon him at all.

What the hell was he doing here in Monterey, California, when his pack was on the east side of Wyoming? She shut herself up in her room and made sure the balcony doors were closed, and the curtain was pulled. She could only hope they would move on, and weren’t at all interested in finding her.

She was sitting in her room later that night, when she felt the moon set and muttered, ‘Don’t you dare do it to me, Selena.’ She didn’t want to scent that Alpha out yet again. An hour passed and she kind of just sagged into the bed and relief swept through her, only to have her startled by her phone ringing.

She didn’t recognize the number and hesitated to answer it. It rang out, and then a text came through, “Pick up, it’s Edward.”

She smiled to herself and answered it when it rang a moment later. “Yes Edward?”

“Where are you, Wynta?” he asked directly.

Her smile widened now, she knew why he was calling, it was a full moon, and she’d once again vanished. “I’m on a mini vacation.” She answered and settled herself back into her bed. “Why does that concern you?”

“Where exactly are you on this mini–vacation?” Edward muttered.

“Hmm, I’m at the beach,” she smiled. “It’s a nice weekend for relaxing by the ocean.”

“Why did you not tell me this?”

“Why would I tell you this, am I required to inform you of my whereabouts?” She chuckled softly. “Did I upset your plans or something?” she asked, unable to keep the amusement from her voice. “Why Edward you wouldn’t be trying to set me up with someone now, would you, I don’t date you should know that by now.”

“Hmm, which beach are you at?” Edward muttered.

“Hmm, I don’t know Edward. I just hopped on a coach and headed north got off where it looked pretty.”

“Liar.” he stated flatly.

“Oh, if you must know, I hopped a flight to San Diego. Whoever you send at this hour of night won’t get here before the moon phase is over. I made sure of that,” she laughed. She told him north a moment ago and now told him south.

“It’s not funny Wynta.” He muttered.

“To you, I think it’s very funny. What’s that now? 21 to 0.”

“I own a private jet, Wynta. I could send for you and have that plane there in as little as two hours,” Edward huffed.

“Hmm, it’s a pretty big place and not knowing exactly where I am, the search would be fruitless. I’ll close the doors and windows and stay inside all night long. Do you think whoever you send can track me down in the six–hour window that would be left by the time they got here? Or do you think that I wouldn’t just get up and leave, so I’m not here? Two hours is a long time for me to move away from the city.

“You don’t drive.”

“Hmm nope, but I’d been willing to bet I could hop on a train or a bus, and get pretty far in those two hours.” She chuckled, “Let it go Edward, hope for the next one, I guess.”

“Save this number to your phone, and don’t ignore my calls again or my son will be living in your office in 29 days.” He muttered and clicked the line closed.

Wynta shook her head as she laughed into her hotel room. “That’s not a threat.” She murmured but saved his number into her phone. She might bloody need it at some point. But Jared in her office in 29 days. She knew what that meant for the next full moon. The man was insane. Why was he so bloody obsessed with her and having one of his boys scent her out?

It was very unlikely she was to have been gifted a second chance, Mate, and she certainly hadn’t asked for one, and was currently hiding in her room from her previous one, and she knew it. She’d not been able to see if he was marked and mated, she hadn’t stuck around for that long, and she was leaving in the morning. Her car would be there to pick her up at 11am.

She would be back home and well away from Nolan and his unit, regardless of if they had tracked her or not, recognized it was her or not, she wasn’t interested in running into them. No, thank you, she liked her peaceful life. Or what had been her peaceful life until last month, she stood by the widow later and looked at the full moon and sighed. “What are you doing to me?” she asked that Goddess of theirs. “I don’t need nor want Nolan in my life, I’d much prefer you keep him away from me. Play nice up there. I know you’re a torment as much as I am, but please torment someone else hey.”

She slept late because she’d struggled to sleep, but thankfully, she still managed to check out on time and was just getting into her car when she heard her name called out. “Wynta wait.” And she saw Nolan coming this way. He smiled right at her and raised his hand to her as though he was her friend.

She got in the car, pulled the door shut and told the driver to go. Ignoring the man who was now frowning as he made his way to the car, “Don’t stop for him,” she told the driver, and he was good enough not to. She didn’t look back at Nolan as the car rolled passed him, though she had a feeling he wasn’t going to be happy about her ignoring him.

He’d obviously tracked her scent to this hotel but hadn’t been able to find out what room she was in. At least that was something, she was now leaving, and he had no idea where she lived, so that was a bonus.

“He’s not following miss.” The driver stated a few blocks away.

“Good,” she murmured. “I don’t need to deal with an ex.”

Her driver chuckled, “I figured as much.”
