He’s an Alpha She doesn’t Care novel Chapter 49

Jared

He watched Wynta get out of that car behind them and smiled at her wearing not only one of the suits he’d bought her, but a pair of the heels as well. As she stopped to talk to Kyan and hearing her conversation, he knew it was on purpose. She was trying to antagonize him on purpose.

He smiled as he watched her. He didn’t really care that she was trying to torment him, or that she was practically asking Kyan out on a date. Though Kyan looked right at him as if not knowing what to do, his smile would tell him to go right ahead. That would just make things more fun for him, he could just tell her she was being naughty, and she needed to be punished.

He could turn that to his own liking. He also liked how her bare legs were shown off, under that skirt as well. They were long and lovely to him, she stood and as she turned, that skirt flared out a little. He knew his choice was right, likely she’d look lovely in everything he’d picked out.

Wynta looked right at him and smiled, as she sipped her coffee and walked inside, like that outfit she had on was nothing new. He smirked a little to himself, and caught his Beta looking at him. He waved it off as nothing, as they all strolled inside behind her, though his eyes were on her the entire time. She was going to play at all he’d done, she was uncaring of. That was good it could see him buy her other things he could find amusing to himself.

Though as he walked he caught the smell that pack scent, from the other night, it was much stronger here than at his apartment. Though it had been quite strong at one point and then dulled down again, that Alpha and his unit had driven through the city last night, but they were still here, and had likely booked themselves into one of the waterfront hotels.

But that scent was so very strong right now, not something she’d picked up on at all, likely too far for her to notice, but not for him or his unit, who’d already discussed this last night, and they were going to play it off as they didn’t care for now. Though he had seen Dwane look about as if to look for it.

There was someone actively watching her and when he breathed in, he picked up the scent of Delta blood. Typical of the situation, he thought. Though for him, if he was tracking a she–wolf, he’d have the Gamma trailing her to try and feel her out. That was a bit odd to him. The Gamma would be the best person to use to try and bring her in as well.

He frowned near instantly as she was given that vase of Daffodils by the receptionist, and there was no card to go with it. He was listening to them, as he knew, so was his unit. As they walked past her, as if she was of no concern to them, if they got along properly, and she was up for playing in front of others, he’d have just snagged her around the waist and pressed his lips to her neck as he asked her who was sending his woman flowers.

Knowing full well that Delta out there watching her, would be able to pick up his and her words from wherever he was outside. She herself resolved that with the words of she didn’t know who sent them, and told the receptionist she could have them. That was actually good because it would tell that Delta, she wasn’t interested in accepting anything from the Alpha tracking her. Something that wolf would have to relay.

Although Jared had walked on past her without stopping out in the foyer, he snagged her from the elevator for general staff to ride with him and his unit. Knowing that the one watching her would see it. The entire front of the building was glass, and he knew they’d be watching her and her interaction with him as well, considering it was likely a description of himself had been given to them, of the Alpha that had been trailing her the other night.

For once, Wynta didn’t even argue about it, she just let him lead her to another elevator and into it, leaned on the wall in there, as though uncaring at all. He had a feeling she was out to annoy him, and had absolutely no idea prior to those flowers that she had a wolf watching her.

He left her on the 7th floor. She had a meeting to attend and would be safe here inside the building. If none of those men out there had an appointment, they’d not get past the foyer. Everyone here had an ID badge that had to be scanned to pass through the half dozen security gates to the banks of elevators.

“She knows who they’re from,” Andy stated. “I felt annoyance come from her the moment she saw them. Didn’t actually care to have flowers from him.”

“Why?” Jared pushed his Gamma. “I get annoyance if they’re rejected, but to no care to get flowers at all…

“Likely he gave her flowers before,” Andy murmured thoughtfully.

“Maybe it wasn’t him that rejected her,” Dwane commented.

Jared was staring at his Beta now, as were the rest of his unit.

His eyes moved to Andy curiously and the man nodded slowly. “That could well be it, she rejected him. Though…”

“With what I suspect about him having to have a Goddess–Gifted to take the seat as Alpha to his pack, it’s unlikely he’d have accepted it.” Jared mused. “We’re still missing something.”

“Likely more than just something minor as well,” Andy nodded.

He was silent as he thought about it. “Was he testing the waters or just trying to find out if she works in the building for the pack.” He murmured as they got out on their floor. “He also knows she’s wolf–less and won’t pick up on them being around unless they’re in close proximity.”

“Now he knows she’s got a wolfen driver that is elite, and that Delta, he’d have watched you lay hands on her, and move her from the crowd to your own elevator.” Emerson murmured thoughtfully.

“They’re doing recon, in other words, that Alpha, he likely doesn’t know how to handle her. Or doesn’t want to come across as seen to be trying to take her by force,” Dwane stated, “Which can only mean one thing.”

“He’s looking to rekindle their bond.” Jared nodded. “Trying to show her he’s either changed or is faking it to bring her in once more.”

“Who rejected who is what we actually need to find out?” Dwane commented.

“No,” Andy shook his head. “What we need is the why, it was issued. Was it just because she was wolf–less? Or was there some other reason for it? If, as you suspect Jared, there’s a pack law about having a Goddess–Gifted, she would know that law. Her being wolf–less shouldn’t have mattered to him. He’d have claimed her regardless, so he could have the seat the moment he was old enough to.”

“Young and stupid is my guess,” Emerson murmured. “I bet he’s the same age as Wynta. They likely went to school together. He could have been a bully towards her, being that she’s wolf–less, he could have thought she was unworthy of him. I’m also thinking that rejection happened when they were both 18. He thought he might get a second chance, Mate, and then that pack law would still be fine when he scented her out, but likely he’s not been granted one yet.”

“She’s 32, so if she left the pack at 18,” Jared nodded. “Right after that rejection happened, I’m betting. Then it’s been 14 years. He either regrets it, or got found out, and now has to hunt for her and bring her back in. I’ve heard a few Alpha’s make their heirs hunt for the true Luna to the pack, who won’t give up the seat until they find her.

“If they’re found out to have rejected a Mate, for something as stupid as the bloodline or rank being of what they consider unworthy, and they now have to redeem themselves. Reclaim her, and seat her as she should have been, as the Luna to the pack.”

“Your father isn’t going to like at all this.” Andy sighed.

“No,” Jared agreed. “But this could be the thing that sees her get brought into the pack officially. She might need to be initiated and stay within the pack to make that Alpha get the hint.” He nodded. “Informing him, won’t be fun. Five years of trying to bring her in and now this; an Alpha, likely her ex–mate, hunting for her to try and likely bring her in for himself.”

“He’s not going to let it go, Jared, or her until she’s been put before you on a full moon,” Dwane commented.

“I’m aware of that,” Jared stated, “I don’t think telling that other Alpha what my father wants is going to make him stop his plans, likely only have him try to snatch her first. But I also know my father, he’s going to want to have a word with that wolf about Wynta being part of his pack and warning him off.”

His entire unit were all looking at him now, nodding slowly. It also wasn’t something they could keep from his father, because if she suddenly went missing, his father would likely blow a gasket. “We have to find out what pack she came from. So we know where to go and retrieve her from if that Alpha snatches her.” he sighed and leaned on his desk. “I don’t think Wynta is going to tell us either.”

“Unlikely.” Andy stated simply.

“Do you want me to go take a walk and have a chat, Jared?” Emerson offered, “Delta to Delta, so to speak.”

“No, let it go for now. Let’s wait a day and see what they do with what they’ve seen here at the office. It’ll be clear now, she’s protected even being a rogue. She also smiled and flirted with Kyan and smiled at all of us, so that Delta is aware she knows who we all are. They’ll have to plan accordingly.”
