Jared
He was surprised that Wynta was so willing to talk about her past, but he had a feeling it was solely because they’d already heard a fair bit of it, from her conversation with Yale yesterday. That look on her face now though, it begged him to ask the question, something his father also wanted him to ask.
“Why don’t you belong there? Other than the rejection,” Jared asked now.
“Orphan.” She stated simply.
He thought about it for only a moment as he watched her. He could actually see that she was touching the palm of her hand and realized she likely had an initiation scar no one had noticed, one small form when she’d been a baby, those scars were barely noticeable. “So, not born inside that pack then. Found outside of it and brought into it?” he asked for clarification.
“Yes, why is that important?” She asked right back.
“May I see your hand?” He asked, and she held it out and turned it over, pointing to the scar. It was very tiny, he reached out and took her hand in his, slid his own thumb over it and, yes, it was an initiation scar, had that distinct feeling of a pack to it, all initiation scars kind of felt like a part of a pack to him.
He nodded and released her hand, looked back at her and stated, “Because although Nolan said he wasn’t going to try and reclaim you, he did clearly state you were born into that pack, that he just wanted to take you home…
“He also made a point of calling you wolf–less, use–less to anyone, implying you would only have more wolf–less pups, that no one would want a Mate like you. Like he was trying to get father and I to believe that as well, in order to give you up.”
“I am wolf–less,” Wynta shrugged it off as if she didn’t care, and he knew that at her age had accepted that fact about herself, but he knew now it wasn’t going to be the case.
“Hmm, no you’re not.” He shook his head. From all he’d heard, her wolf was just dormant and needed the right set of circumstances to emerge was all, “You are without wolf, there is a difference between wolf–less and without wolf. Something Nolan would have found out when attending Alpha College. One that doesn’t have a wolf and could see them get a wolf later in life, can mind–link to others from the age of 16.
“When they were supposed to get their wolf, and one that is truly wolf–less, they can’t connect a mind–link to anyone. Nolan told us you couldn’t hold a mind–link conversation. I believe that was a lie,” He leaned forward and looked right at her now. “Could inside your pack, connect yourself to other wolves?”
“Yes. But there is no sign of my having a wolf, Jared. I’m 32, not a single growl, snarl or thought that isn’t mine.” She frowned at him. “I am wolf–less.” She told him.
“I doubt it, and so does father, a late shifter is all,” he told her, and watched her frown deepen. She didn’t believe him, and he knew it, had no reason to after all these years.
“Again, I’m 32 that’s 16 years past when I would have gotten my wolf.” She shook her head once more, confirming she wasn’t convinced.
“One without wolf, that can hold a mind–link. Sometimes all it takes is to be marked and mated, and then their wolf will come on the following full moon.” Jared explained to her, “Like 90% of the time, this is how it works.” He stated and leaned back in his chair once more.
“Oh, I didn’t know that,” she shrugged it off, but also didn’t sound as though she cared at the same time.
“It’s common knowledge to Alphas, there’s actually a class on it in Alpha College. I’d be willing to bet your own Alpha, Peter. He knew this, and was just waiting for you to find a Mate, to see what happened. How’d he treat you, the actual Alpha to that pack?”
“Fine, no issues,” she stated simply.
“Nolan, I’m guessing didn’t have the knowledge at the time. But now he does, Wynta, and not only that, his Beta also stated they know who your father is, and that he’s looking for you.”
“I don’t care about that, Jared, to be honest. I was probably given up for a good reason.” She shrugged uncaringly, again just like he thought she would.
“Yes, but what if Wynta, they now know that your lineage is not what you think it is. What if you were bled to someone else, and it’s hiding your true bloodline?” he put to her.
“So, what if it is? Again, I don’t care.” She answered right back.
“But Nolan now does. He didn’t want you as a wolf–less she–wolf, but then learned in Alpha College you’re only considered to be without wolf. Now he knows who your father is as well… It’s likely you’re a ranked member; father and I both feel you’re likely to be Alpha–blooded.”
He watched Wynta laugh now. “I don’t think so, Jared.”
“How exactly were you found?” he asked, seeing as she was now willingly opening up and talking about everything about herself. He’d see if he could get it all.
“Bundled up warmly in clean clothes, I was healthy and unharmed. They also never once stated I was abandoned, always stated left so someone else could raise me. Told me she–wolves don’t just give up their pups for no reason.”
“They don’t.” Jared nodded, “So from this I’m going to say, you were hidden for a reason.
“One I’m certain isn’t going to be for a good reason at all. That father you’re talking about, likely isn’t a nice person. I was also scent masked as a baby, as was the person who left me to be found. My mother, I believe, sent me away to have a better life.”
He could only agree with her now that he knew how she had been found. “Are you sure you don’t want to know if you were bled to another?” he asked her once more; he needed to make sure of her decision before he truly let it go.
“I’m certain,” she stated simply, “if you or your father un–bleed me, that father of mine will pick up the kin bond the minute he lays eyes on me, and right now he can’t. I could walk past him, and he’d never know.” She shook her head. “It’s safer to leave me as is.”
“Normally, I would agree with you, considering your rogue status, but Yale stated they know who he is, and them knowing who you are, where you are now, they’ll just tell him, and he’ll come for you anyway. It’s likely they’ll even have a photo of you to give to that man so he’ll know you, but you won’t know him.”
He saw her sigh and turn her eyes to the window across from her as she pressed her lips together in a thin line, like she always did when she was thinking about something she didn’t like. He now understood that expression after seeing it so many times before.
“It would be best to come in Wynta. Let father initiate you, and see if you’ve been bled to another. Being a member of the pack will give you protection from any Alpha, from any wolf out there, regardless of rank. They can’t just take you if you belong to another pack, regardless of if they’re your kin or not.” He told her what was actually best for her. In the hope that this would see her come into the pack.
He thought she was thinking about it, though she still didn’t like the idea, but he wondered if that was just because she’d been a rogue so long, she no longer felt like she needed to be part of a pack. “You’ll still get to live here in this apartment, and with myself and my unit here you’ll have protection around the clock, to and from the office, and on the weekends.”
Her eyes moved back to him and her expression changed from one of thought to a frown, ” You won’t be here; you will go back to Europe the moment I’m initiated into the pack,” she stated.
“Hmm, not right away, no. Dwane and Tallah, you saw what I did, so I’ll be here until at least this coming full moon, and if they are Mates, she’s human and will take time to come in, a few months at that. So, you’ll get that protection until the next full moon at the least, possibly for three to six months after that.” He made sure not to look at the band on his wrist, or state that he was also wanted to be here for the full moon himself, to see if he and Creed would scent her out for themselves.
