Wynta
She answered her door curiously after the doorbell chimed and then smiled at Kyan out there. “We’ve got all your furniture.” He told her and Wynta stepped back for him and his men to bring everything into the apartment.
The couch was the first thing in the room and once it was placed up against the wall, he pointed to the flowers. “Now that, you don’t see every day,” he commented.
“Hmm, agreed.” She nodded as two other men brought in her bed. It was a simple king–size ensemble with a black tuffet bedhead in a nice velvet fabric. She’d made sure there was
nothing Jared could use to his advantage when buying her bed.
She didn’t have much to be delivered, just the couch and a single matching chair with a rug for the living room floor, her bed and two bedside tables, the fridge, a washer/dryer combo and an outdoor setting and that was it. Just things that she actually needed and nothing more.
She looked at Kyan as he stood in her bedroom doorway. After everything was placed, and the rest of the men with him had left, he’d stayed behind. “I see Jared is committed.” He smiled at her.
“No, he’s not.” She shook her head. “Apparently this is his way of apologizing for what happened in the office on Thursday,” she told him simply.
“That’s not what I see.” Kyan shook his head.
“The card is on the kitchen bench. Go read it,” she stated. She wasn’t worried about him seeing what Jared had written, there was nothing in it. Even that sticky note was harmless. She watched Kyan stroll over and read it and the sticky note that was attached to the inside of the card now.
“Hmm,” he looked at the flowers. “I think maybe Wynta, that Jared is trying to outdo your ex. I heard he sent flowers to you on Thursday afternoon.”
“He did.” She nodded. “I gave them to another staff member; they can brighten her office.” She answered. Though that thought now made her wonder just how Dwane had felt about Tallah having another man’s flowers in her office. He might not like that, considering what she’d seen go on and Jared’s words. Dwane hadn’t denied it either.
“This many flowers,” Kyan shook his head. “He’s making a very loud statement.”
She moved her eyes to the flowers, “Do you want to take a bunch home to your girlfriend? There’s plenty to go around.”
“Hmm, that there are,” he nodded, “but I will get my ass handed to me if Jared finds out. One doesn’t take something the Alpha has given to another, and re–gift it to someone else, not even flowers. That’s a no no.” Kyan shook his head ‘no‘ at her.
“What am I supposed to do with them?” she muttered.
“Enjoy them, I would presume,” Kyan smiled at her. “Now I’m headed off, you have no need of myself or the boys anymore. We’ve been called off. Now that you live here, I can only imagine you’ll have an escort to and from the office,” he looked at the flowers once more. “That no one will mess with from now on.” He pushed off the bench after putting the card down.
“Yay.” She murmured only to have Kyan chuckle softly.
“You might not even need it. There was no one at your apartment this morning, your ex probably doesn’t even know you’ve moved out. That will be frustratingly annoying for him. But he dropped all surveillance of you before that meeting with Edward and Jared yesterday.”
“Why do you think he did that? Not that I’m complaining. Do you think he went home finally?” she asked with a little bit of hope that, that was it.
“No, he’s still here, likely just rethinking his strategy is all. Perhaps you should ask Jared about the meeting he was in last night with his father and his and his father’s unit. We were all called off after it, told to help you move, but then to leave you alone.”
She nodded. “I guess that can only be a good thing, though I don’t want an Alpha or any of his unit escorting me everywhere I go. I don’t need to be seen with him again like that, and have more gossip start up.” she shook her head ‘no‘.
“Now, Wynta, I know you enjoy the man’s company as much as he does yours,” he smirked at her. “Stop fighting it and maybe just allow yourself to enjoy it, no holds bar, you never know there could be something more there than you think.” He smiled at her.
“I doubt that, Kyan. It’s just Jared trying to seduce me into being initiated into the pack is all and nothing more,” she stated. “He told me that himself.”
He chuckled softly, and she heard the door close, as he followed her across the room, his shoes clicking casually on the tiles. She was barefooted, not planning on going out again today. She’d already ducked off and picked up a few groceries. That was all she needed to do today other than move in.
He followed her all the way out onto her balcony. “You got my flowers, I see.”
“Got them?” she questioned right back. “More like you were so desperate to make sure I got them, that you personally let a florist into my apartment to make sure I wouldn’t reject them.” She stated and sat down in her chair once more.
He laughed. “Hmm, well, I did hear you wisely rejected the last lot you got. Gave them to Tallah, I heard. I couldn’t have you doing that to me now. Not when I went to all the effort of practically buying out an entire florist shop for you.” He sat down on her other chair.
“Why would you even bother?” She raised an eyebrow at him. “Or Jared, are you actually interested in me?” she dared to ask him directly.
He raised an eyebrow right back. “Is that the impression you got from those flowers?” he asked right back.
“No,” she shook her head. “Not at all. I’m just a game to you, a game, Jared, you’ll never win.” She smiled to herself as she turned her eyes from him to her phone, and back to the book she was reading.
“Hmm, we’ll see.” He chuckled softly, “Have you cashed that cheque yet?” he asked, and she heard the slight difference in his tone, there was a teasing husky note to it.
“Nope. The bank is closed today. Weekends don’t count if they are dedicated non–working office hours.” She moved her eyes back to him. “Are you looking to punish me, Jared? Seems you can’t even go a day. Hell, it’s not even been 24 hours since you last touched me.”
She smiled. “Like I said, I can go days, weeks or months without, but you…” she smirked. ” Didn’t even last 24 hours. I believe that’s another win to me. You’re losing just like your father always does, you know that right.” She taunted him easily.
His eyes were narrowed upon her now and she knew he could see her full amusement, “Oh poor Jared, even Andy’s in the lead with me. Your own Gamma is one up on me and yet you’re losing. Hmm, bet that must sting.” She added fuel to the fire. She couldn’t, it seemed, help herself. Maybe she did want to be punished by him.
