Chapter 12
Knowing why I’d come, Caspian immediately lost emotional control.
“Teagan, why can that Xavier guy pursue you but I can’t?”
“How long has he known you versus how many years have we known each other?”
“In this world, aside from your parents, no one understands you better than I do, and no one is more suitable for you than I am.”
I was so angry I laughed, and shot back:
“Caspian, do you really not remember what you once did?”
“Search your conscience–have you ever seriously treated my feelings with respect?”
“You just enjoyed that sense of superiority from me chasing after you, believing that no matter how you treated me, I could never leave you, so you could manipulate my sincere heart at will.”
Having his vital point exposed, Caspian became even more defensive:
“Yes, I made some mistakes back then.”
“I was too young then, felt like the whole world was full of temptation, didn’t want to be tied down by just one person.”
“I owe you a formal apology. Teagan, I’m sorry.”
Caspian looked completely sincere, suddenly softening his tone to plead with me:
“But even if you consider me a stranger, I should still have the right to pursue you again.”
“After leaving, I realized I’m no longer used to life without you, and I can’t imagine who I’d share everything with in a future without you.”
The evening wind by the river was strong, giving me a bit of a headache from the breeze. I thought quietly for a long time before opening my mouth to answer him.
“I won’t hide it from you–since leaving you, I’ve learned that mutual affection doesn’t require walking on eggshells and accommodating.”
“I can be myself openly, my emotions don’t have to revolve around someone else’s will, so I suddenly discovered-”
“Perhaps that foolish affection from our youth might have just been my own immaturity at the time.”
Caspian froze like he’d been struck by lightning, staying still for a long time.
After quite a while, he finally spoke in a low voice, his tone aggrieved to the extreme.
“But we made promises before–to go to university together, travel the world together. Are you going back on all of that too?”
I felt momentarily dazed, nodding, then shaking my head.
“You broke your promises first, and I’ve already found someone I want to do all those things with.”
Caspian looked somewhat broken, his eyes reddening.
“Stop, Teagan, please, don’t say anymore…”
Seeing his dejected, hurt expression, I couldn’t help but offer one last piece of advice.

Chapter 12
“Maybe you don’t really love me–you’re just unwilling to accept it.”
“Caspian, you should move on too.”
I didn’t wait for him anymore.
Xavier had been waiting for me across the street for a long time.
I ran over and he immediately took my hand.
“Finally got rid of the ex? Did you tell him that from now on, I’m contracting all your spider duties, and he doesn’t get to kill a single one?”
I was laughing and nearly crying at the same time.
I looked back at Caspian, still frozen by the riverside.

The street pulsed with human tides–meetings and partings, hellos and farewells.
And we had finally become two drops lost in the ocean of countless lives.
