As I turned to leave, Piotr called out:

“Leila Hall, you must be happy.”

I glanced at Itai and smiled.

My phone rang, and I answered it.

“Goodbye, Piotr.” He forced a bitter smile.

“Alright, we both need to be happy.”

A month after our wedding, Grandpa passed away. In his final moments, he tightly held our hands, asking Itai to take care of me.

Itai promised again and again before Grandpa finally let go, closing his eyes.

After handling Grandpa’s affairs, Itai pulled out a small book and tucked it into my pocket.

At my eighteenth birthday party, someone had been pushed into the swimming pool. The boy, over six feet tall, was clearly terrified of water and couldn’t swim.

Everyone stood by the pool, laughing, yet no one stepped forward to help.

I shoved the onlookers aside and dove into the pool, pulling the boy to safety.

The parents arrived just then and scolded the pranksters.

I dragged Itai up onto the beach and laughed.
