That was the one thing that brought his parents any comfort.
Yvan had a rebellious streak. A few years ago, after a minor lecture from Hogan, he had stayed abroad for seven years, only returning this year.
Fortunately, Yvan hadn't just been wasting time overseas. He had earned a dual degree in Economics and Computer Science and even started his own financial investment firm.
Hogan knew many wealthy kids claimed to be studying abroad when they were actually just escaping their families to party and live recklessly.
But from what he had heard, Yvan hadn't been reckless. He hadn't even had a girlfriend.
Upon his return, Hogan had wanted to give him a management position in the company, but Yvan refused, saying he wanted to make it on his own without relying on his parents.
Hogan was pleased. He figured at his age, it was time for his son to start dating and thinking about marriage and kids.
He didn't want Yvan to end up like them, struggling to have children when they were older.
So he introduced Yvan to his old friend's daughter. This friend was now the director of a major hospital, and his wife was the CEO of a medical device company. While they couldn't compare to the Brown family, they were still well-off.
But Yvan had rejected the girl outright without even trying to get to know her.
Today, Mr. Johnson had called him, furious, saying Yvan had told his daughter, Cornelia, that he had no intention of dating and that she wasn't good enough for him.
Hogan was livid and felt terrible for his old friend. So now, seeing Yvan, he was seething.
Yvan rubbed the bridge of his nose. “What did I do to upset you this time?”
“You have the nerve to ask!” Hogan glared. “Why did you reject Mr. Johnson’s daughter? Why did you tell her to her face that she isn't good enough for you? Just look at yourself.”
Hogan strode over to him and sniffed the air. “Drinking and smoking. Ms. Johnson is more than good enough for you!”
