Todd was a social butterfly. Out of the ten classes at Pinecrest Prep, he knew at least a few people in every single one.

Yvan, on the other hand, was much more aloof. Aside from Todd, Simon Wood, and a few others, he rarely socialized. He was the type everyone knew, but who knew almost no one.

Todd was at a club, living it up amidst the blaring music. He was curious to get a call from Yvan and had to shout to be heard. “High school? Man, that was ages ago! Why are you asking about people from back then?”

Yvan pulled the phone slightly away from his ear, frowning. “Cut the crap. Do you know anyone or not? From Class 9.”

“Hold on, let me check,” Todd said. He let go of a gorgeous woman, stood up, and moved to a quieter spot, scrolling through his contacts. “There’s a guy named Ethan who I think was in Class 9. Who are you looking for?”

“Ask this Ethan if there was a girl named Karen in their class. If so, get me her contact info.”

“Karen? Who’s that? Sounds like a girl’s name.” Todd’s eyes narrowed. “What’s going on? Are you chasing after someone?”

Yvan lit a cigarette, his patience wearing thin. “Don't ask so many questions. Just get me the number. It’s urgent.”

“Alright, alright, I’m on it,” Todd said, knowing Yvan’s short fuse. If he stalled any longer, Yvan would lose it.

A few moments later, Todd sent over a phone number. Yvan didn't care that it was already ten at night; he dialed it immediately.

“Hello, who is this?”

A woman's voice came through the line.

Yvan said, “Hello, are you Winifred Collins' sister?”

Karen paused. Winifred had changed her last name during her junior year of college, a good six or seven years ago.

This person clearly didn't know that, which meant he was someone from her past.

She said, “Yes, I am. Who’s this?”

“It's Yvan,” he said. “I heard you also went to Pinecrest Prep, so you’ve probably heard my name.”

Karen was shocked. Why was Yvan calling her? Was he looking for Winifred?

“What do you want?” she asked, keeping her tone neutral.
