He pointed at the little boy.
"We're not apologizing. What are you gonna do about it?" The tattooed man raised his fist. "Now get lost before my fist gets acquainted with your face."
Yvan was unfazed. He shoved the man aside, grabbed the boy by the collar, and dragged him in front of Winifred. "Apologize."
The tattooed man stumbled from the push. The moment he regained his balance, he cursed and threw a punch at Yvan.
Yvan pushed the boy away and turned to dodge the blow.
The boy, shoved hard by Yvan, fell and scraped his knee, immediately starting to wail.
Seeing this, the tattooed man grew even angrier and charged at him.
Winifred's heart leaped into her throat. Yvan might be taller, but the other man was clearly much stronger. And he didn't look like a good person; what if he had a knife? Why was Yvan still so impulsive, just like he was in high school?
She quickly pulled Delia to a safer distance and, with trembling hands, took out her phone to call the police. "Hello, officer? Please hurry, there's a fight at the playground across from Zion Medical Center. Please come quickly."
After hanging up, Winifred held Delia's shoulders. "Delia, you sit here and wait for me. Don't go anywhere. I'm going to help stop the bad guy."
"I want to help too," Delia said, trying to stand up.
Winifred was touched. She stroked her hair. "No, you're too little. You can't fight him. Just wait for me here, okay?"
Delia nodded obediently. "Okay, I won't go anywhere. I'll wait for you."
Winifred rushed back to the scene. Yvan and the tattooed man were trading punches.
Anxious but not knowing how to help, Winifred could only shout, "Stop fighting! Yvan, stop!"
Yvan glanced at her, then suddenly attacked with renewed ferocity. The tattooed man couldn't fend him off and staggered back after taking several hits.
