The handsome man and beautiful woman made a perfect pair.
Winifred stared at them until they entered the coffee shop, at which point she quickly lowered her head.
The café was small, and Yvan noticed Winifred sitting at a table by the wall as soon as he walked in.
She was alone, and for some reason, she looked terribly lonely to him.
"Yvan, what would you like to drink? The coffee here is all hand-ground and tastes amazing," Cornelia asked in a sweet voice.
"Whatever."
Yvan sat down, his gaze drifting involuntarily to Winifred. There was a drink on the table opposite her, but the seat was empty. Was she on a date?
Cornelia continued, "How about I get you a mocha? Theirs are really good."
Yvan didn't respond, his attention fixed on Winifred.
"Hi, we'll have one mocha and one caramel macchiato."
After ordering, she tried to start a conversation. "Yvan, how about we see a movie after our coffee? There's a new one out that's getting a lot of buzz, and I haven't seen it yet. Yvan? Yvan?"
Cornelia finally noticed where Yvan's gaze was directed. She followed it and saw Winifred.
Winifred had been planning to leave the moment she saw them walk in.
Now, she finished the last of her coffee, picked up her bag, and headed for the door.
"Dr. Spencer," Cornelia called out, stopping her.
Winifred turned, giving them a slight nod. "Ms. Johnson. Mr. Brown."
Cornelia linked her arm through Yvan's and smiled brightly. "Dr. Spencer, what a coincidence! Yvan and I were just tired from shopping and decided to stop for a coffee. We never expected to see you here. Are you here by yourself?"
Yvan pulled his arm away, and a flicker of disappointment crossed Cornelia's face.
"No, I was with a friend who had to leave early," Winifred said calmly. "I have to get going as well."
