She made a show of checking a few other rooms before making her way to Winifred’s.

Winifred was in the middle of treating a patient. She saw Cornelia’s group and gave a slight nod but didn’t greet them, immediately returning her focus to her work.

Cornelia glared at Winifred, her mind flashing to how Yvan had threatened her just to defend this woman, and how Monica and Hogan had come all this way just to see her. A wave of jealousy washed over her.

Her eyes scanned the room, and she suddenly pointed to the countertop. “Dr. Spencer, why is this surface so dirty? Hasn’t it been cleaned? If a patient gets an infection because of this, will you take responsibility?”

Winifred couldn’t leave her patient, so Stella went over to check. “It’s not dirty. It looks perfectly clean to me.”

Cornelia’s face hardened. “Are you in charge, or am I? If I say it’s dirty, it’s dirty.”

Stella fell silent.

Cornelia turned to the staff members trailing her. “What do you all think? Does it look dirty to you?”

They hesitated for a moment before one of them mumbled, “...It is a bit unclean.”

“Yes, we should deduct points,” another added. “Let’s take off two points.”

Stella seethed silently, not daring to speak up.

Cornelia’s lips curved into a satisfied smile. Winifred tightened her grip on the forceps in her hand but said nothing, continuing to treat her patient.

Seeing her silent compliance, Cornelia grew even more irritated, feeling as though her provocation had fallen flat.

She looked around again and pointed to a bottle of iodine solution on the counter. “There’s no opening date written on this. Dr. Spencer, how can you be so careless? And you’re supposedly in charge of infection control for this department. What if it’s expired? What if a patient gets an infection because of it?”
