I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 578

Kate looked at Sawyer, her expression soft and almost pitiful. She asked, "Honey, are you in a bad mood?"

Sawyer remained calm. "I'm just worried that if your dad sees this, he might think that I've let you suffer an injustice."

Much of Kate's confusion melted away at those words.

She stepped forward and took Sawyer's arm, looking close and affectionate. "I knew you loved me. You scared me a little just now. But don't worry. My dad isn't that kind of person. Let's go see him."

Kate visibly brightened. She had been so scared of upsetting Sawyer.

Ever since their marriage, she had become highly sensitive to Sawyer's every move and expression. She just loved him too much.

She had quietly become cautious and careful, almost forgetting her once-proud demeanor.

But at her core, she simply feared losing Sawyer—the wealthy, hot man who loved her.

Relying on Sawyer's affection, Kate often threw minor tantrums, though they were never serious.

Like just now, sitting on the floor for over an hour purely to have Sawyer come comfort her. Such antics were not uncommon since their marriage.

But Sawyer would indulge her each time. He would give her whatever she wanted just to make her happy.

As they walked out, Kate remembered something. "Honey, an international brand is releasing a new jewelry set next week. They sent me photos. I think it's very pretty. It's quite formal, perfect for wearing with you to events."

She meant that she wanted Sawyer to buy it for her.

Sawyer's tone stayed gentle as he said, "We'll talk about it later."

He had originally been very satisfied with Sawyer. The young man had a good reputation in Draventh, was generous, and genuinely cared for Kate. Connor had thought that having such a son-in-law would help the Pearson family reclaim its status.

But ever since that crazy woman intervened, things had spiraled out of control.

As his son-in-law, Sawyer hadn't gone out of his way to help him, and Connor was displeased. It showed plainly on his face.

This was exactly what Kate had feared. If Connor gave Sawyer trouble, she would be stuck in the middle.

"Dad, why are you talking like that? We're family. As long as we're safe and healthy, that's enough. This isn't a formal occasion," Kate said, annoyed.

Upon hearing that, Connor fell silent, though his expression darkened further.
