Connor had now become the perfect cautionary tale.
Kate's cheeks burned with embarrassment.
Most of her colleagues were only friendly to her because of her connection to Sawyer, who happened to be Damian's friend.
They flattered her, but deep down, Kate knew just how much envy they held toward her.
And now, with Lauren publicly bringing up Connor's scandal, Kate could feel that those same colleagues were inwardly laughing at her.
Gisselle spoke up. "This is a workplace, not a gossip circle. Lauren, even if you're not on my team, you should know where to draw the line."
"Oh, Ms. Bowman, so you do remember that I'm not on your team? Then maybe focus on managing your own people and tell them to stop bringing their family drama to the office. Honestly, this company could start its own tabloid. We wouldn't need to look outside for news. Just hang around Ms. Pearson and you'll have headline material every day," Lauren retorted.
"Lauren!" Gisselle snapped.
Just then, the office door opened. A team member walked out, and Heidi's voice came from inside. "Lauren, get in here. What's taking you so long?"
Lauren gave a slight grin as she stepped in. "Sorry, I got held up a bit."
Once the door shut, everyone turned back to their work, leaving Kate completely isolated.
Her fingers clenched tightly around her phone.
If she wasn't mistaken, Rhea had seemed to enter the office right as Lauren was spouting nonsense.
She unlocked her phone. Her WhatsApp inbox was completely empty without a single unread message.
Sawyer still hadn't contacted her.
One whole night had already passed. Kate wondered why he hadn't reached out yet.
