Not only did Sawyer not check on Kate or reach out to her, but he even went out to play golf with Damian.
But that wasn't what really unsettled Kate.
What caught her attention was Sawyer's smile in the video.
She wondered who he was texting.
That expression wasn't one of amusement at something trivial. She knew that the warmth and softness in that smile had to be directed at a woman.
Her heart sank.
But Kate quickly tried to calm herself, considering that she may be overthinking the situation.
They were newlyweds, and Sawyer wasn't the type to be fickle or have a messy personal life. He hadn't even touched her yet, so there was no way he would betray her over another woman.
The more she thought about it, the more she reassured herself.
Perhaps Sawyer was really angry that she had brought up the topic of divorce.
After all, he loved her so much. She figured that a man as independent and accomplished as he was would probably find it hard to swallow his pride if a woman asked for a divorce.
Kate reflected on herself.
Losing Sawyer over Connor's mess would be a huge loss.
Having convinced herself, Kate decided to give Sawyer a chance.
She would take the initiative to send him a message. She was sure that he would calm down and come to pacify her.
All afternoon, she deliberated over the message, carefully choosing her words.
She wouldn't let her tone sound submissive, nor would she give any hint of backing down.
So, she typed. "I'm leaving work early today. Come pick me up."
She read it over several times, then made a few tweaks.
Finally, the message she sent to Sawyer read, "I'm leaving work early today. Be at the office entrance to pick me up on time."
She added a reminder to be on time.
Kate thought that since Sawyer loved her so much, if she gave him an out, he would definitely go along with it. After all, they were newlyweds.
