Reading Sawyer's cold and curt reply, Kate didn't pause to wonder why. The first thing that came to mind was Damian's post from earlier that day.
She couldn't believe that he was out golfing with Damian, but didn't have time to pick her up after work.
Kate was so used to Sawyer bending over backward for her that this act of neglect made her teeth chatter with anger.
However, she wasn't the type to yell or make a scene.
She swallowed her frustration, walked to the street, and hailed a cab home.
As luck would have it, Lauren saw the entire scene and even recorded it. True to her nature, she sent the video to the company's private group chat.
The group chat wasn't specifically to discuss work-related matters. It was mostly for team outings, holiday gatherings, or casual gossip and foodie discoveries.
Lauren wrote. "Gosh, why was Ms. Pearson so mad? Didn't Mr. Burton come pick her up? She just got married, so she probably doesn't know much about managing a marriage yet."
She then tagged Gisselle. "Ms. Bowman, you should comfort her and maybe give her a little marriage advice while you're at it."
People who had once envied Kate for having a handsome husband pick her up from work in a luxury car now saw the truth. She had taken a cab home herself!
So perhaps things weren't perfect between them.
Gisselle didn't respond, but a few of the more curious female colleagues started asking questions.
Everyone wanted to know why Sawyer hadn't shown up. After all, the lives of the rich were always fascinating to ordinary people.
Sitting in the cab, Kate saw Lauren's message. She slammed her fist against the seat's backrest with terrifying force.
