Through all those happy moments, Kate had truly fallen for Sawyer. She never expected him to speak to her with such cutting words.
"I'm not criticizing you. I'm just stating the facts," Sawyer said, looking up. "So, are you making that face because you can't admit how incompetent you are?"
"From now on, just stay at home and do whatever you want," he declared, final and unyielding.
Kate couldn't accept this sudden change. "Why are you doing this? Is this your way of showing me love? Have you forgotten all those promises and vows you made when we got married?"
Sawyer stopped in his tracks and scoffed. "You actually believed that stuff?"
It hit Kate like a punch to the chest. She stared at his back in disbelief. "Sawyer, what do you mean by that?"
He had changed completely, and it happened out of nowhere!
"Are all men like this? Do they just stop cherishing you once they have you?"
Sawyer, clearly annoyed, turned sharply. "Have? Have what? I haven't even touched you. But I've given you everything a woman would have."
Indeed, he had given her everything.
Kate had once been the envy of every woman around her. But the more she thought about it, the more it sent chills down her spine.
If she were to decide to divorce now, how would she explain it to anyone? Say that Sawyer had changed? Who would believe that?
He still came home every day, didn't indulge in debauchery, and didn't force her to work, allowing her to enjoy a comfortable life at home. He seemed… perfect.
A sudden wave of fear crawled up her chest. She realized that she couldn't read Sawyer anymore.
He stubbed out his cigarette. "I've had some free time recently, so I'm staying home with you."
He would be with her?
Kate drew in several deep breaths and stepped in front of him.
He then let go of her and headed to the bedroom.
Kate steadied herself and rushed to find Lola.
It was at that moment that she found out that Lola had already been fired that evening. It was no wonder she hadn't seen the latter anywhere all night.
Kate spun to leave, but the door was locked from the inside with a code. Without it, she couldn't get out.
Kate spun around in fear, pressing her body against the door. Her eyes were full of panic and unease.
What was Sawyer planning to do? Why was he acting like this all of a sudden? Was it just because she had spent a bit too much, acted a little willfully, and brought up divorce?
He was just angry, right? He wouldn't actually do anything to her, would he?
After all, he had been kind and protective toward her all along.
