After a brief moment of shock, the rich wives and Rhea and her friends cast looks of unbridled disdain at Kate.
However, Sawyer had more to say. He continued, "The kicker here is that Kate knew about it and still covered for her father. She also insulted my sister and told her that it was her own fault. She even said my sister should feel grateful because it was a kind of 'affirmation' from her father."
What the hell? What sort of vile words were those?
Even those in the room who didn't consider themselves saints felt a sense of inferiority when it came to Kate's venom. In terms of malice, no one in Draventh could surpass her!
Kate sat there, feeling as if her glamorous, beautiful facade had been silently ripped apart. Her skin had been peeled back, revealing the raw darkness within. She was numb and powerless, unable to even begin to defend herself or explain.
As Sylvia's younger brother, Sawyer had more than enough authority to speak regarding this matter. His words were like the final nail in the coffin, leaving Kate no chance to redeem herself.
He said, "That's why I thought she should atone for her father's sins, which led to everything that's happened these past few days."
Everyone glanced at Kate's knees under the table. They were red, swollen, and scraped raw. They looked wrecked, but so what? Those scrapes were nothing compared to the ruin of another woman's innocence by her beast of a father!
Yet no one in the room dared to voice their thoughts. They exchanged glances, wondering whether they would even be allowed to leave the villa now that they knew about the Burton family's sordid family history. Would they be quietly disposed of there?
At that moment, many of the wives began reflecting on their relationships with their husbands. Their marriages were at least decent, right? If something happened to them there, their husbands would look for them, wouldn't they?
The wives were filled with regret. Why had they gotten so close to Kate? Could anyone save them now?
But there was one—Rhea!
