I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 11

That afternoon, Natalie arrived at The Ramirez Estate alone.

Alexander's mother, Savannah Davis, looked surprised and faintly displeased to see her by herself. "Why are you alone? Where's Alexander?"

Typically, whenever they visited, they always arrived together. But Natalie had waited for a long time without hearing from him, and as it grew late, she had no choice but to come on her own.

"He's probably still at the office," Natalie offered, picking a random excuse since she had no idea where he was.

"Probably?" Savannah's displeasure deepened. "As his wife, you're not even sure where your husband is? How can I expect you to take good care of him?" She paused, then continued, "You two have been married for three years now, and you're still not pregnant. What's going on? Don't you want to have children?"

Of course, she had wanted a child, but not with Alexander anymore. Besides, he didn't want one either.

"If I could have a baby on my own, I probably would have by now," Natalie replied, her voice calm.

"What kind of attitude is that?" Savannah's face darkened, catching the sarcastic jab at her son. "Are you blaming Alexander? He has spoiled you rotten. I should have insisted on opposing this marriage from the start!"

The engagement between her and Alexander had been arranged by their families years ago. After Natalie’s parents died and the Watson family fell into ruin, Savannah felt she was no longer worthy of her son and had been against the marriage. But Alexander had insisted, and the entire Ramirez family had witnessed how he treasured and doted on her. They had no idea that six months into the marriage, he had changed completely. Whenever he was at the estate, he acted as he always had; the moment he stepped out the door, he reverted to being cold and heartless.

"Savannah, Gabriel and Eugene are back," the butler announced.

Savannah immediately smoothed over her displeasure. Alexander’s father, Gabriel Ramirez entered the living room, followed by Eugene Ramirez, Alexander’s uncle.

After greetings were exchanged, Savannah went upstairs with Gabriel.

A woman's voice suddenly came from the foyer.

Natalie turned to see Camila White walking in with Alexander, smiling brightly. They looked like a perfect couple.

Eugene exchanged a few pleasantries with Camila, then turned to Alexander with a smile. "You were in Pennsylvania on business last year. Why didn't you stop by? I only found out from your father."

"The schedule was too tight. No hard feelings," Alexander replied, his lips curved in a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"I see," Eugene nodded.

"But it was a shame you missed our wedding," Alexander continued. "We're all so happy you're back now. Especially Natalie."
