What kind of person do you like?
Natalie’s eyes were half-lowered, her lashes trembling. The only man she had ever loved was right here, yet he was convinced she was in love with someone else.
Even if it was a misunderstanding, she was right here in front of him. Couldn't he sense the truth?
"I haven't really thought about it. As long as we get along," Natalie replied.
"Do you have a boyfriend, Ms. Watson?" Sophia Green pressed on.
Natalie shook her head. "No."
"Then do you like men like Mr. Ramirez?"
The questions were becoming increasingly inappropriate. Mr. Green scolded Sophia again, telling her to stop.
Their relationship was purely business. The Green family’s standing in Cabinda couldn't compare to the Ramirez or Thompson families, and he didn't want his daughter's lack of tact to ruin their partnership. Besides, the question involved Alexander. If Natalie's answer bruised his ego, Mr. Green would be the one to blame.
"Mr. Ramirez, Ms. Watson, I've truly spoiled Sophia. Please don't take offense," Mr. Green said with an apologetic smile.
Alexander didn't seem displeased at all. In fact, he looked intrigued. "Ms. Green is refreshingly direct. I don't mind being used as a benchmark. The real question is whether Ms. Watson dares to answer honestly."
An answer could be true or false. Alexander's tone was clearly laced with sarcasm, especially since she had just claimed to be single. Technically, she wasn't lying. Without the final divorce papers, their marriage was still legally valid, which meant she couldn't officially be with anyone else.
Alexander glanced at Natalie, a subtle mockery glinting in his eyes.
Seeing that Alexander wasn't angry and had even praised her for being forthright, Sophia blushed, her heart pounding as if she were falling in love.
"Mr. Ramirez is the dream man of countless ladies in Cabinda. If Ms. Watson were to say she dislikes him, it would seem rather unappreciative," Samuel Thompson remarked playfully. "But if she says she likes him, Mr. Ramirez won't believe her."
It was an impossible question.
Samuel had cut right to the heart of the matter.
Sophia suddenly laughed. "And they say you and Ms. Watson aren't a couple. Mr. Thompson, everything you say seems to be in her defense."
Just then, Sophia walked over, smiling sweetly. "Mr. Ramirez, could you give me a ride as well? I know you live at The Apex Residences, and I have an apartment there too. I need to get back to read a script tonight, and my dad is such a nag, I'd rather not ride with him."
She positioned herself very close to Alexander, her tone bordering on coquettish.
Natalie spoke up. "I can just get a cab. Please don't trouble yourself, Mr. Ramirez."
"Mr. Ramirez has a lady to escort. Ms. Watson, why don't you ride with me?" Samuel had his driver pull the car around and held the rear door open for her.
For a moment, they all stood there. Natalie glanced at Alexander, who was looking at her intently, as if waiting for her to get into his car.
"Thank you, Mr. Thompson."
Natalie averted her gaze, turned abruptly, and got into Samuel's car. He followed close behind, and the car quickly disappeared from view.
Aaron silently opened the rear door of Alexander's car. After Alexander got in, Sophia moved to follow, only to be blocked by an outstretched arm.
