I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 163

Her words made Alexander’s playful demeanor vanish. He leaned in closer.

Natalie braced herself with one hand, leaning back. “What are you doing? Don’t you dare try anything.”

“Say what you just said again.” He ignored her teasing, his expression suddenly serious.

He kept moving closer, and Natalie leaned back further and further until her supporting arm gave way, and she tumbled back onto the sofa.

Alexander loomed over her, trapping her between his arms.

Suddenly, the door swung open.

“Mr. Ramirez, Prestige Properties Group…” Aaron Lee strode in, then stopped dead, his words catching in his throat as he took in the scene on the sofa. He froze for a second, then immediately spun around to leave, but remembered why he was there. He stopped again, his back still to them.

“Mr. Ramirez, Mr. Byron from Prestige Properties and Raymond Gates have both been arrested.”

Mortified, Natalie pushed hard against Alexander’s chest, trying to get him to move.

He didn’t budge, as if still waiting for her to repeat her last words.

With Aaron in the room, Natalie couldn’t say anything more. She shot Alexander a pleading look and whispered, “Can we talk about this later?”

Seeing her expression, his heart softened, and he straightened up.

Natalie quickly sat up, smoothing her clothes and hair.

“Come in and talk,” Alexander finally said to Aaron.

Aaron’s heart pounded with regret. He had interrupted his boss at a critical moment; he was surely done for.

With Aaron present, Natalie felt it was best to leave. She stood up. “I’m going back now.”

Surprisingly, Alexander didn’t stop her, only saying, “Wait for me in your room.”

There were some things he didn’t want Natalie to hear. It was dirty business, and he didn’t want it to taint her.

“Speak.”

Once Natalie was gone, Alexander sat back on the sofa. He glanced at the coffee, then picked up the glass of milk instead.

Her left hand was still injured, so Eugene rose and pressed a button on the side of the bed, which automatically raised the headrest.

“I just arrived myself. You were sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to disturb you. I was actually about to go upstairs to check on Alexander when you woke up.”

Eugene stood opposite her. “How’s your hand?”

“Just a minor fracture. It’ll heal with some rest,” Natalie replied with a small smile.

Eugene’s expression hardened, his eyes taking on a steely glint Natalie had never seen in the usually gentle man.

“I will act as your legal counsel,” he said, his voice low and firm. “I will make sure they never get a chance to come out again.”

Natalie was taken aback. She hadn’t even considered pressing charges.

Just as she was about to speak, the door opened and Alexander walked in.

“Uncle, why didn’t you offer to be my lawyer?”
