I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 222

Camila had to lay it on thick, but she finally talked Savannah into having afternoon tea with her. In the private lounge of the club, Camila fidgeted nervously, glancing at the door every few seconds. When it finally opened, Savannah walked in, her expression stormy. Camila hurried over, pasting on her brightest smile.

“Savannah, I know you love black tea, so I asked them to make the best English tea they have here,” Camila said, linking her arm through Savannah’s and guiding her back to the table.

Savannah pulled her arm away and let out a soft scoff. “Do you think you can fix everything with a cup of tea?” She sat down, arms crossed, making it clear she wasn’t in the mood to be charmed.

Camila did her best to look confused and a little hurt. “I honestly don’t know what I did wrong. Please, tell me. If I made a mistake, I want to fix it.”

“Camila, I’ve always treated you well, haven’t I? I even tried to help you and Alexander get together. And what did you do for me?” Savannah’s voice was tight, her frustration obvious.

She remembered what Natalie had said the other day, warning her not to let herself be used by anyone. At the time, Savannah had been too angry to really think it over. Later, when she realized she’d actually misunderstood Natalie, she felt awkward and even a little guilty. Calmer now, she realized that the whole mess had started because of a message from Camila. Since Camila and her son got involved, there had been one issue after another in the family, and somehow Camila always seemed to be at the center of it. This time, things had even gotten tense between Savannah and Alexander.

The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became. “You might be carrying the Ramirez baby, but if you have any hidden agenda, or if your heart isn’t in the right place, the Ramirez family won’t stand for it. There are plenty of women out there who could have Alexander’s child.”

Before Camila could respond, a server brought in the tea. Camila quickly poured a cup and handed it to Savannah with both hands. “Savannah, you know how much I love Alexander. I could never hurt him. You’re older, I’m younger, and whatever you say goes. I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have vented to you before I knew the whole story. Please, you’ve known me since I was little, don’t hold it against me.”

At first Camila really had no idea why Savannah was so upset. But now she figured Savannah must have run into trouble with Natalie, or maybe Alexander had said something. Out of everyone in the Ramirez family, only Savannah was still somewhat on her side. She knew she had to keep Savannah on her team, or her chances of joining the family would be slim to none.

Savannah saw Camila’s apologetic face and softened a little. She had watched this girl grow up, after all, and honestly, Camila just cared too much about Alexander. With a sigh, Savannah said, “Just focus on your health and the baby. As long as we’re around, Alexander won’t treat you badly.”

“Thank you for always looking out for me,” Camila said, her eyes filling with tears. “I wish you were my mom.”

Savannah patted her hand with a small smile. “What are you saying? I’ll be your mother soon enough.”

After a few minutes, Mr. Main excused himself. “Please, relax and enjoy. I need to go greet Mr. Ramirez at the entrance.”

Natalie froze for a second.

Samuel glanced over at her and asked, almost carelessly, “Mr. Main invited Mr. Ramirez too?”

“Yes. The resort was actually designed and built by a company under the Ramirez Group,” Mr. Main explained.

Just as he finished speaking, his assistant came rushing in. “Mr. Ramirez has arrived.”
