I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 259

By the time the head of tech finished talking, almost everyone else had cleared out. Arianna really didn’t want to stick around.

“What does Mr. Thompson need from me?” she asked.

“I have no idea. He’s on a call right now. Just wait here for a bit.”

He left in a hurry, and suddenly Arianna found herself alone in the presidential suite with Samuel Thompson.

The door to the sitting room was open, so she could see Samuel by the window, phone pressed to his ear. He stood straight and tall, broad shoulders highlighted by the warm light, his profile so sharp and serious. When he was working, he gave off this intense energy, like nobody could get close to him. It was nothing like his usual self.

Watching him, Arianna felt her calm start to slip away. Her heart beat a little faster and nerves crept in. She realized she couldn’t handle being alone with him, not like this.

She turned quietly, trying to sneak out without making a sound.

“Arianna Mitchell.”

She’d barely taken two steps when his deep, magnetic voice caught her from behind. She froze, suddenly stiff.

Turning slowly, she forced a small, awkward smile. “Mr. Thompson.”

He walked over and sat on the sofa, glancing at her still standing. “Have a seat.”

Arianna kept her head down as she moved to the sofa, perching right on the edge. She didn’t dare meet his eyes.

“Did you need something, Mr. Thompson?”

She’d never expected that something so small could catch his attention like this and land her in such an awkward spot.

“My secretary doesn’t know I like a few drops of orange juice in my coffee,” Samuel said, calling her out without hesitation.

Arianna’s excuse fell apart instantly. She’d just seen an orange nearby and decided to add a little on a whim, thinking it was harmless.

She was left speechless, her face burning even hotter.

Samuel looked at her, clearly not ready to let her off easy. He added one more thing, making her wish she could disappear.

“You know, I can always tell when you’re trying to avoid me.”
