I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 85

Natalie felt she might have been overdoing the avoidance and shifted slightly closer to the center.

Alexander studied her for a moment. "Are you upset?"

"No."

"Is it that time of the month?"

Natalie was silent. It was true that women could be emotionally unstable before their period.

Alexander glanced at Aaron Lee. "Head to the dessert shop."

Receiving his orders, Aaron immediately signaled and turned in another direction.

Soon, they arrived at a dessert shop. Natalie looked out the window and recognized it as her old favorite. The name was the same, but the storefront had been renovated.

Alexander got out, went inside, and returned five minutes later with a small, elegant cake box.

"Red velvet cake. It still tastes the same as you remember."

After getting back in the car, he handed the cake to Natalie. "Try it."

Natalie looked at him, surprised that he still remembered.

"Sweets help when you're in a low mood," Alexander said casually. "And being angry gives you wrinkles."

Just a second ago, Aaron had been thinking that his boss had changed, that he'd lost his sharp tongue. The next second, he was breaking out in a cold sweat on his behalf. Mentioning a woman's age was a cardinal sin...

Aaron peeked at Natalie in the rearview mirror. To his surprise, Mrs. Ramirez wasn't angry at all.

Natalie clearly understood Alexander's intention was to cheer her up with something sweet. In truth, she wasn't even sure why she was upset. Her mood had soured the moment Aaron mentioned Alexander parking around the corner. Their marriage was a secret, so his actions were perfectly logical and would make the divorce smoother. What did she have to be angry about?

She took the box, opened it, and tried a bite. It was sweet but not cloying, just like she remembered. After a few more bites, her mood genuinely improved.

Just as Natalie was about to speak, Alexander, who had already seated himself on the sofa, cut in. "Uncle, just because you don't have time, what makes you think I do?"

Gabriel chimed in, "You just launched two new projects, but there's nothing else urgent on your plate. You should have the time."

Although Gabriel was still the chairman, he had handed over the company's reins to Alexander but still kept abreast of its operations.

"I have a commitment," Alexander stated flatly.

Natalie handed the tickets back to Eugene. "Uncle, these are very rare. You should go with a friend."

"I have to visit a senior figure in the legal world this weekend, I really can't make it. If Alexander is busy, you could always invite a friend to go with you," Eugene suggested.

"Alright, then." Refusing again would seem impolite. "Thank you, Uncle," Natalie said, accepting the tickets.

From the sofa, Alexander's face grew even darker.
