The next morning, when Natalie Watson came out of the hotel, Aaron Lee was already waiting by the car.
"Good morning, Mrs. Ramirez."
Natalie returned the greeting and handed him the keys. After getting in the car, she asked, "How long did Grandma ask you to do this?" After all, he was Alexander Ramirez's assistant, not her personal chauffeur.
Aaron Lee paused for a moment. Had Mr. Ramirez actually told Mrs. Ramirez that Charlotte had sent him? The excuse he'd invented yesterday had turned out to be true?
"Charlotte insisted that I wait until your foot is fully healed," Aaron replied, weighing his words carefully. "Preferably confirmed by a doctor."
Mr. Ramirez had told him to be her driver but hadn't given any other instructions, just to play it by ear.
Natalie was at a loss for words. The cut on her foot wasn't deep. After two days of rest and medication, it had already scabbed over. Did she really need a doctor's confirmation for that?
"Fine. After work today, you can take me to the hospital."
Aaron seemed surprised by her decisiveness. "Yes, Mrs. Ramirez," he said after a few seconds.
He drove the car to its designated spot in the Pinnacle Place underground garage. After getting out, he opened the back door for her.
"Thank you, Mrs. Ramirez."
"You don't have to be so formal with me."
Natalie smiled. "You can hold onto the keys. I won't need the car during the day, so you can drive it over to The Ramirez Group and come back to pick me up after work." It didn't seem right to make Aaron take a cab to work after dropping her off.
With that, Natalie turned and walked toward the elevators.
Not far away, Ava Thompson had just gotten out of her BMW Mini and saw Natalie emerging from another car. She was about to run over when she stopped. *Wait, Nora has a driver now?*
She looked closer. The man looked like… Alexander Ramirez's assistant. She’d seen him trailing Alexander the two times he had visited. Mr. Ramirez's assistant was practically a high-level executive. Why was he chauffeuring Nora?
Ava covered her mouth in shock, feeling like she had uncovered a major secret.
Her phone rang, pulling her from her thoughts. It was Samuel Thompson.
Samuel laughingly promised to keep it a secret, and she finally relaxed.
After hanging up, Samuel Thompson, sitting in the back of his car, let the smile linger on his lips, though it gradually took on a more calculating edge. He had tried questioning Arianna Mitchell before, and while he hadn't gotten much, he had already suspected a connection between Natalie Watson and Alexander Ramirez. Seeing Ava's nervousness, he had just bluffed.
Even if it wasn't Alexander himself, it was someone close to him. Aaron Lee was a man who commanded respect, second only to Alexander. So, Natalie and Alexander were likely dating, or had been at some point. After all, the only woman publicly close to Alexander Ramirez in recent years was Ms. White.
"Interesting," Samuel murmured. He then asked his assistant in the front, "When is the Billy Firth jewelry auction?"
"It's tomorrow."
When Ava got to the office, she realized Samuel had never mentioned why he called. She didn't bother calling back, but she felt a pang of guilt about Natalie all day.
Aaron Lee went to the president's office to report to Alexander Ramirez, recounting nearly his entire conversation with Natalie.
"Mrs. Ramirez said she wants to see a doctor after work this afternoon."
Alexander's gaze, however, landed on something else, and his face darkened.
