Zack’s hand froze in the air, then dropped. He glared at her back, bitter and annoyed. “What a shameless woman. What’s she even showing off for?” he muttered.
He knew Nadine wasn’t even a real daughter of the Embers, just adopted. He, on the other hand, was born into money.
This bitch still acted like she was too good for him? Please. She only got lucky because her sister caught the attention of Finn.
If Nadine had heard his thoughts, she might have fainted from rage.
But Zack only mocked her in disdain in his mind. He sneered coldly and walked off.
At the same time, Steven reached the hospital room.
He pushed the door open carefully. Steven found a group of doctors and nurses standing around Tess’s bed, running tests on her.
At the center was Finn, dressed in a black suit.
Mud stained the hem of his jacket and pant legs, but it didn’t weaken the cold, commanding presence he carried.
The sound of the door made everyone look up.
Finn raised his brow and motioned for the medical personnel to continue.
“How is she?”
Steven asked quietly as he lightened his step; eventually he stopped beside Finn.
For the first time, the two men spoke calmly in the same room.
“Cuts and bruises. Nothing internal,” Finn answered.
He knew Steven had helped in Tess’s rescue, so he didn’t hold back a reply.
Although it wasn’t serious, Steven’s heart ached when he looked at her closed eyes.
Tess was already dressed in a hospital gown. Her pale face stood out, and the only part of her

He didn’t even want to imagine how many more injuries were hidden beneath the fabric.
Steven’s eyes trembled in rage. He bit his lip and turned away.
“When will she wake up?” he asked the doctor.
“After being tortured for so long, her body is very weak. She hasn’t eaten or had water for a long time. We’ve started IV fluids, but she may not wake until tonight,” the doctor explained honestly.
Steven’s eyes dimmed at this.
“I’ll come back tomorrow.”
Without another word, he walked out.
Finn’s deep gaze followed him until the door closed. Then he turned back.
“When exactly?” His cold eyes cut toward the doctor.
The doctor flinched, forcing a nervous smile. “If Mrs. Lock responds well, she could regain consciousness by late afternoon.”
Finn gave a short, quiet nod and sat back in the chair.
His eyes swept over Tess’s face. With her color drained away, a scar along her cheek became visible.
Something flickered in his eyes. Without thinking, he reached out and brushed her cheek.
The scar felt faint, almost like it had been drawn on with a marker.
“Do you have medicine for this?” He asked suddenly.
The doctor nearest to Finn followed his gaze and finally noticed the scar on Tess’s face.
He quickly tugged on the sleeve of the head of dermatology.
The middle–aged man, wearing silver–rimmed glasses, leaned in for a closer look. “The hospital just got a shipment of new imported medicine. It should help fade this scar.”
Finn waved his hand, signaling Zane to go fetch it.

“You can all step outside with your discussion,” he added, rubbing his brow.
In a blink, the room was empty except for Finn and Tess.

Finn hadn’t slept last night, and after a long day of rushing from one place to another, the silence of the hospital room made the weight of exhaustion press down on him.
The faint scent of disinfectant lingered in the air. Strangely, it soothed him.
His eyes stopped at Tess, and that sense of calm grew stronger.
His lashes fluttered, and he pressed a hand over his heart.
Finn forced himself to stay awake and tried hard to steady himself; he even rubbed his temples to fight the drowsiness.
Tess was safe now, but the people who hurt her–he would never let them walk free.
A flash of menace and shadow crossed his eyes.
In his mind, the scene from the warehouse replayed in brutal detail. Tess, beaten and scarred, screaming in despair as a man tried to put his hands on her.
The image struck him like a blow. In that instant, his fatigue vanished. All that remained was
rage.
Finn stood restlessly. His fists clenched as he tried to control the urge to tear the world apart.
He looked at Tess one last time, afraid of disturbing her, then slipped out the door.
Standing still in the crowded hallway, the chill aura coming from Finn made people slow their steps without even realizing it.
He paused outside her room, then walked to the one next door.
Finn had chosen this room on purpose for Layla. When Tess woke up, she wouldn’t have to go far to see Layla.
In just a short time, Layla had already warmed up to the nurse caring for her. Now she was happily playing with a small toy under the nurse’s watch.
The sweet, ordinary moment softened the storm inside Finn, at least for now.
“You bought that?” he asked quietly.
