The next morning.
Bang! Bang!
After knocking a few times with no answer, Raven hacked into the hotel's system and unlocked the door herself.
As soon as she stepped in, the strong smell of alcohol hit her nose.
She waved a hand in front of her face and walked farther inside. In the bedroom, she found Lachlan sprawled on the floor.
Raven frowned. Her eyes swept over the half-empty bottle by his foot and the puddle of spilled liquor. She pressed a hand to her forehead in frustration.
Then, she crouched beside him. She slapped him three times across the face—hard.
Lachlan woke up in a daze, blinking up at her furious face.
"You—"
"Want to die? Go drink yourself to death back home!" Raven snapped, landing another slap.
That one finally sobered him up.
The sting burned across his cheek as he jerked to the side, barely dodging her next swing.
"Raven!" He gritted out between his teeth.
But she didn't stop. Her hand came down again, sharp and fast.
Half drunk and half awake, Lachlan stumbled to his feet, tripped, then fell back down. His knee smacked hard against the floor with a sharp crack.
Only then did Raven pause. She looked down at him from above, a mocking smile tugging at her lips. "I thought you'd been pretending to be all innocent for far too long," she said coolly. "You might've forgotten how to fight back."
Her eyes narrowed.
Raven had known Lachlan since they were kids. She was a student of Wentworth, sent abroad to study music at a young age. Over the years, she'd spent so much time under the same roof with Lachlan that they'd practically grown up together.
But she knew better than anyone; this guy wasn't as quiet and obedient as he pretended to be around Tess.
Now, standing in front of her, Lachlan looked nothing like the elegant pianist the world admired. His breath came heavy and uneven, his hair a tangled mess. Anyone would wonder just how badly he'd fallen apart last night.
"You don't get it," he muttered coldly, his voice low and rough.
A chill wrapped around him, sharp and heavy.
Raven folded her arms and dropped down on his bed without asking. Lachlan shot her a dark look, but she ignored it.
"Forget about Tess," she said flatly.
The warmth in her eyes faded, and for once, her usual playfulness was gone.
Lachlan lifted his head, his gaze sharp as a blade. "You don't get to stop me."
"I'm just giving you a reality check," Raven said, spreading her hands.
Then her tone grew serious. "You're just bitter, Lachlan. You heard those things your grandpa told you when you were a kid and convinced yourself she was your fiancée. I bet she never knows about this."
Lachlan froze.
"So what?" He bit his lip and said through clenched teeth. "I'm here now. She'll find out sooner or later."

Tess's past?
