Blythe’s P.O.V.
~Flashback: Age, 17~
I had been moving for hours, but I was headed in the right direction. I knew that. I felt so unbelievably lucky. God must really be on my side. This was all a fu.cking miracle.
Or, well, I thought it was.
I had snuck into the compound, terrified that Daniel was going to catch me. I was too afraid that maybe he was right about the club, so I didn’t go to the front. Instead, I came home. Back to the place that I felt safest. I couldn’t believe I was here, that I made it.
“B–Blythe?”
It felt so good to hear my name from his lips. It felt good to see him. So good that I just couldn’t help but throw myself at him. I desperately needed him. All of them. I needed them to tell me that they didn’t know. That they wanted me here. That they could save me…
I wish I would have realized that he wasn’t even hugging me back.
“Blythe… what are you doing here?” He sounded shocked, and not in a good way. Maybe he’s upset that I surprised him. It’s a few days before my 18th birthday. I know Daniel suspected I would try to escape after I turned 18. I think he somehow knew about the promise I made. That must be why he was so sloppy tonight. Because he thought I would just keep waiting.
“P–p–please… I know I–I’m a little e–early, b–but I c–came back to stay,” I was a damn mess.
“No.”
Wait…
“W–what?” I breathed out. I couldn’t have…
“I said no. You can’t stay. You weren’t supposed to come back.”
Not supposed to come back… but…
“You need to leave.”
No… no he can’t say that. None of that makes sense. Because that would mean… that Daniel was always right…
“I’m trying to save you some embarrassment, Blythe. Nobody wants you here. We didn’t actually think you’d come back, that you’d take that promise seriously.”
No… no, that’s not right. It’s not. It can’t be. They all…
Maybe he just doesn’t know how bad it is.
“P–p–please E–Evander… p–p–please don’t make me go back. P–please… I–I swear I’ll be better. I promise. I–I’ll stay out of your way, but please d–don’t make me go.”
“You’re going.”
And that was that. Evander literally dragged me kicking and screaming. At one point, he told me if I didn’t shut up and go willingly that he would just knock me out. All I could do was silently cry.
When Daniel showed up at the end of the street to get me, I begged Evander…
“Please… d–d–don’t make me go back to that place… P–please Evander… I–I’m so s–sorry…” I blubbered.
“P–p–please… p–please…”
“Make sure she doesn’t come back here,” he said to Daniel as he literally shoved me into the devil’s arms.
“Ever again.”
“Of course,” Daniel agreed. “Wouldn’t want her bringing drama to your precious club.”
Then I was shoved into the car. All while I cried, staring at Evander, begging him with my eyes to help me. He never did. He didn’t even spare me a glance before heading back home. To his perfect life. His normal life.
And the saddest part of it all… I still didn’t believe he’d done this on purpose.
“Just fu.cking wait until we get home,” Daniel seethered as Mason started to pull at my clothes already. “You’re in for it now, sweetheart.”
When we got back to Silent Divine, Daniel tossed me into a room in the basement. There was no light whatsoever. The floor was cold and hard. I wasn’t given a blanket, pillow, a bed. I wasn’t given a bathroom, or even a bucket to go in. I wasn’t even given food. No one came to check on me. They left me in solitude.
Until three days later, my birthday.
“I told you I was going to give you a gift,” Daniel said. “You’re the first we’re going to do this to, and hopefully the last. We don’t like to damage the goods, but your master has already given the go–ahead. Hopefully, you’ll serve as an example to the others.”
Suddenly, Mason was in front of me. He grabbed my wrists and tied them together. Then he hooked them around the large cross sitting in the center of the stage. I didn’t even try to break free. What was the point?
Then Mason moved all of my hair to one side. I was confused. They never cared about my hair getting in the way before. Suddenly, there was a leather belt at my lips. My eyes flickered to Mason’s.
“Bite down, princess,” he said sinisterly as he smiled at me.
I did as I was told, my body trembling.
Then I saw Daniel come around to address the crowd. He was in front of me, holding something that was long and orange–ish. In that way, metal gets when it’s too hot.
“Today, we celebrate Silent Divine and all its offerings,” he told the crowd. “Today, you all get a special treat.”
Then he spun around, and I got a good look at the thing in his hand. My eyes widened and I began to struggle. All it did was make Mason laugh. Daniel turned back to me. Our eyes connected as I began to sob. He bent down, getting in my face and bringing the hot rod he had close to my face.
“Today, you will always remember who exactly you belong to,” he stated.
Then he was moving behind me. My body shook with fear. I could pick up the faint smell of urine coming from myself. I’d never felt fear like this in my life. Even after everything they’ve done to me. This was a new level of torture.
“For your master… you will repent,” Daniel stated.
Then he shoved the hot part of the rod into my skin. I cried out as I bit down on the belt between my lips.
Tears streamed down my face as white–hot pain filled every inch of my body. It hurt worse than a burn. The smell of my flesh melting made me want to gag. I could hear my skin sizzle from the heat.
Finally, Daniel pulled it away. Mason let go of my hair. The belt dropped with a low thud to the floor. I was panting, wheezing, barely breathing. My vision started to blur. The pain was indescribable.
“Never forget, dearest daughter,” Daniel said gleefully. “You will always belong to Silent Divine.”
And that was the last day that I ever gave into silly things like hope.
