Flavian’s POV
I was looking at the calendar. Only one week remained until we would have Manu's DNA test results. I was anxious about it and really hoping that Cam's suspicion would be confirmed - Manu didn't deserve to have that woman as her mother.
"May I come in, detective?" I looked up and saw Breno standing right at my door. He was the police officer who had been helping me investigate what had happened to Cam's mother on the day she died.
"Great to see you, Breno! Make yourself at home, my friend." I stood up to greet him. We had known each other for a long time, having worked together when he first joined the police force. "Your visit is quite a surprise."
"Well, there's a reason for my visit. I thought it would be better to tell you in person what I've discovered so far about that case you asked me about." Breno sat down across from me.
"Must be something important to bring you all the way here." Breno nodded, confirming my suspicion.
"Yes, it is important. Your private investigation might end up becoming a police matter." That surprised me.
"What do you mean?" What could be so relevant to trigger a formal investigation?
"Well, let's start from the beginning. The maid, Rose was her name, had been working in the house for about a year when everything happened. But before working there, she had been an employee at Orlando's family company - Orlando being the husband of the woman who died in childbirth. Rose had been fired from the company by Orlando's father about six months before she started working at the house." I thought this was news to me, but did Cam know about it?
"What was her job at the company and why was she fired?" This information was important.
"Her sister doesn't know exactly or doesn't remember. She knows Rose worked in an administrative role and didn't tell her sister why she was fired, but the sister said she was furious and kept talking about getting revenge on them. And the sister also told me she had a friend at the company, though the sister couldn't remember the name, she mentioned they were very close and Rose told everything to this friend." Breno had gotten good information.
"Interesting! But if she was angry about being fired, why did she go work at the family's house?" I found that quite curious.
"I asked this to the sister and she told me she had talked to Rose about it, since it didn't make sense to her either. Rose told her sister she needed to stay close to them to get her revenge." I listened to what Breno said and thought for a moment, millions of possibilities parading through my mind.
"This just gets more confusing," I commented.
"Yeah, but the woman is certain that this Rose hated her employers. The last time they spoke, she said her sister told her she would soon move so they could be closer, because her revenge was almost complete and she would leave as soon as she finished her plans. This was days before Rose was found dead. Her sister also found it strange that she was found drowned, because she didn't know how to swim and therefore never went into rivers or lakes." Breno looked at me, and I knew that look - he was interested in the case.
"It's all very interesting. But doesn't this sister know how Rose planned to get her revenge?" I asked.
