Rita’s POV

The day was scorching hot and I returned from church exhausted, desperately needing a shower and a cold drink. It was tiring to play the role of an abandoned wife and having to accept all the advice and laments about my ungrateful husband who had left home. Truth be told, when I arrived and realized Orlando had moved out, I was quite pleased - I was already tired of him, but I needed to maintain my role as the loving abandoned wife.

"Cida! Cida!" I called for the maid, but she was such a dimwit, always taking forever to show up.

"Yes, ma'am?" Cida appeared, drying her hands on her apron.

"Where's Julian?"

"Sleeping, ma'am."

"Bring me something cold to drink, I'm burning up." The maid left the room and returned with a tray holding the refreshment. She was looking at me suspiciously. "What is it, Cida?"

"Ma'am, Cam was here earlier."

"What did that good-for-nothing come to do at my house? Did you let him in, you useless thing?" I had already forbidden that insufferable man from entering my house, and even after Manuela left, he hadn't come back here. So, why this unwanted visit?

"Ma'am, I couldn't stop him, he just walked in and said he would wait for you, then he asked for coffee..."

"You left that piece of trash alone, you incompetent?"

"Ma'am, he asked for coffee, I just went to the kitchen to make it. And that rude man even spat out the coffee and said it was bad." Cida said grumpily.

"Your coffee is bad indeed." I had to agree with that. "Did he touch anything?"

"He just went to the bathroom, ma'am."

"And you let him, you useless thing?"

"When I brought the coffee, he was coming back from inside and said he had gone to the bathroom, ma'am, I didn't even see him."

"Good Lord, how useless! Go on, Cida, get out of my sight before I throw this glass at your head." She disappeared from the room, and I was left wondering what that boy came here for, what he was looking for.

The doorbell rang insistently, and Cida ran past me to open the door. I had just gotten back from church and hadn't had any peace yet. My plans to take a shower and rest were being ruined.

"Good morning, Rita!" Calvin showing up at my house was unusual - he and Orlando didn't get along well.

"Calvin? What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised by the visitors knocking at my door today.

"Came to have a little chat with you. It's about our agreement." Just what I needed - this man backing out of marrying his good-for-nothing son to Manuela.

"I already told you I'm going to bring that girl back. Don't worry."
