Epilogue Part II

“Mommy!” the screams of the twins echoed around the dining room making Juniper cringe.

“Why must we have family dinners in public places when my children are spoiled ruffians who cannot be tamed?” Juniper asked as she turned in her seat to face the mini doppelgangers of Phineas her heart, despite her words, clenching with the love of how damn cute her mini–CEOs were in their button–up shirts and cargo pants with pockets filled with whatever treasures they’d pilfered from school.

How he’d managed getting her pregnant with twin boys on their first trip to Spain all those years ago was a mystery to nobody. He raved about his superior sperm to anyone who would listen. Then she’d given birth to a little girl two and a half years ago who was the spitting image of Beni. She was praying the child in her belly right now was Adil’s and they could say they were done because in a drunken night between pregnancies, she’d promised that no matter what she’d make sure one of their babies had his biological connection.

It was foolish of course because all three of them got called Daddy by their kids and none of the kids at this age knew what biology meant and they didn’t know whose genes floated in their blood. Yet, somehow when their daughter was born looking like she was cloned from Beni, she wanted ve much48 little boy with brown eves like Adil.

“Mommy!” the twins skidded in front of her. Four years old and full of life and laughter, they were hell on feet. They were mischievous to a fault, and she was constantly fielding calls from the school. “We had no timeouts today!”

“I don’t believe you,” she deadpanned as they scrambled into seats at the table, shoulder–to–shoulder, not liking to be away from each other for even a moment of time. They’d been delivered via c–section when she’d suffered some blood pressure issues, with their bodies entwined around one another. The doctor had simply pulled them both out together and laughed at them.

“It’s true Mommy,” Phineas the fourth nodded excitedly, his bright blue eyes shimmering with excitement. It had been a coin toss which of the boys got the name. He was living up to it. He was bossy as hell. “No time out today. Daddy said if I go a whole week with no timeouts I get a new car.”

“I hope to hell he meant a toy one,” Suki muttered.

“Of course I did.” Phineas tugged Suki’s hair and then sneered as his fingers pulled away greasy, “what the hell is in your hair, Suki?”

“Massage oil.”

“Ooh,

like that?” He looked at Juni hopefully.

“No.” She shook her head emphatically but knew she was getting a massage which probably wouldn’t last five minutes once the kids were asleep. She held her arms up to take the little girl from Beni. “How long has she been sleeping?” Fear of her napping now meaning she’d be awake all night curdled along Juniper’s spine.

“Five minutes at most.” Beni leaned over her and kissed her mouth softly. “Hi Sunshine. How was your day?” he stroked her cheek softly.

“It was good. Busy. My boss kept trying to call me up to his office and I’m ready to file sexual harassment charges,” she gave Phineas a glare, but he showed no remorse as he leaned past Beni to kiss Juniper’s lips.

“I can’t help it. I love it when your belly is all rounded. It’s beautiful. I want to see you all day long.”

Adil was the last to approach and he leaned over Juniper’s shoulder from behind her and blocking off the table from the view at the back of the restaurant, “did that fool come near you?”

Trust Adil to never miss a trick.

“He saw Suki and came to say hi to her, noticed I was here,

chatted very briefly and went back to his table.”

“He’s crying his head off. His mother is staring at our children like she might abscond with them.”

“The woman who wanted grandchildren so desperately is never getting them,” Phineas snorted as he took his seat. “Ignore him. Let him cry. We are not going to stop being the happy family we are because he is sad.”

The loud squeal of Suki’s son as he caught sight of his mother from the entrance of the restaurant spoke to her influence on her child. His screaming excitedly for his mother from Frank’s arms made Juniper’s daughter sit up straight wide–eyed in Juniper’s arms.

“Did anyone see that piece of shit crying in the corner?” Frank asked loudly not caring if his voice carried.

“Yup. We’re ignoring it,” Beni said as he encouraged Frank to sit with a laugh.

“Why is he crying?” Frank was staring overtly at him like he was torn between wanting to pummel him and offer him a

tissue.

“Because Juniper has everything he ever wanted and not with him.” Suki declared equally loud.
