**TITLE: Broken Doesn’t Mean End**
**By M. Kaushik**
**Chapter 44: Wet Behind the Ears**

Helen’s eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief as she shifted her gaze to Timothy. There was something about the way his posture slouched, a casual nonchalance that both intrigued and annoyed her. He tilted his head, his dark irises glimmering as if they held secrets of the universe, pulling her in like a moth to a flame.

His lips, thin and well-defined, curled into a lazy grin that was equal parts charming and wicked. The ethereal quality of his face seemed to intensify, radiating a sensuality that was hard to ignore. The air around them crackled with an unspoken tension.

“Didn’t I mention we were headed in the same direction?” Timothy quipped, his sculpted brow arching playfully, a challenge in his tone.

Suddenly, he leaned in closer, bridging the space between them with an audacity that made Helen’s heart race. “Or are you suggesting that I was waiting for you… specifically?”

The world around them faded into a blur as the distance shrank to nothing. Helen could feel the warmth of his breath, a tantalizing hint of pine and something distinctly him, swirling around her senses. It was intoxicating.

Her heart fluttered. The coolness in her eyes seemed to ripple outward, creating waves of uncertainty.

He chuckled softly, the sound wrapping around her like a warm blanket. “Does Ms. Walcott believe I was just idly waiting for her at the Walcotts’ estate?” His voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, brushing against her ear like a feather, sending shivers down her spine. It was both irritating and oddly exhilarating.

Helen pressed her lips together, her delicate brows knitting in concentration. “So you’re the partner Professor Langford hastily recruited?”

The urgency of the situation weighed heavily on her. After an exhausting night spent salvaging the core data, she was acutely aware that the real work lay ahead, requiring collaboration with experts at the institute.

Philip had assured her that he’d found a partner with “strong backing and solid technical skills” who could assist her with specific challenges. She had never imagined that partner would be Timothy, the golden boy revered in Veridia’s elite circles.

As they stepped into the core control room of the National Institute of Research and Development for Project Genesis, the atmosphere was thick with tension. The massive curved screens blinked ominously, red alerts flashing like warning sirens.

Researchers, clad in crisp white lab coats, scurried around the control panels, their faces a mixture of concentration and anxiety. Many were seasoned veterans, their temples dusted with gray, yet they all seemed oblivious to the presence of the infamous Timothy.

Upon their entrance, several researchers momentarily froze, caught off guard.

A young, portly researcher with disheveled hair, Archie Marsh, scratched his head in irritation, his voice dripping with disdain. “You two, do you even know where you are? Get out of here!”

These were individuals who lived and breathed their work, absorbed in the world of research. Even the sight of someone as renowned as Timothy failed to register in their minds.

“I…” Helen began, frustration bubbling beneath the surface as she prepared to assert herself.
