**Chapter 46: Flushing Out the Rats**

Westin stood frozen, his complexion paling as the weight of the moment crashed down upon him. “Then… then Project Genesis…” he stammered, the tremor in his voice betraying the gravity of their predicament. The very thought of the project self-destructing sent a chill through the room, a catastrophic outcome that could obliterate everything they had worked tirelessly to build.

“What? You were aware that the program was set to self-destruct, and yet you still attempted to breach it?” Archie’s voice sliced through the tension, sharp and accusatory. It was as if he had been waiting for the perfect moment to unleash his pent-up frustration on Helen. “Why couldn’t you just wait? Let the professionals handle it?” His tone dripped with disdain, a condescending edge that implied her youth rendered her incapable of grasping the seriousness of the situation. “I told you, you don’t understand anything. You’re completely reckless!”

Helen, her fingers a blur over the keyboard, filled the tense silence of the control room with a rapid, rhythmic clicking. “You’re the so-called professional here, yet you didn’t even realize it was a trap,” she retorted, her voice unwavering amidst the chaos surrounding them.

The embarrassment of being challenged by someone so much younger ignited a furious blush in Archie’s cheeks, his indignation palpable. “So what if you detected the trap? You can’t possibly crack that kind of program! You’re more likely to bring about the destruction of Project Genesis than to save it!” His frustration was a tempest brewing in his chest, threatening to erupt.

“Just because you lack the ability doesn’t mean I do,” Helen shot back, her gaze steady as it locked onto his fiery glare. “If you can’t contribute positively, then step aside. You’re just wasting time.”

“You!” Archie’s fury was nearly tangible, his teeth grinding together as he struggled to contain his rage. A bitter laugh escaped his lips, a mix of disbelief and contempt. “Fine! I want to see just how capable you really are! I won’t stick around for this mess. If anything happens to Project Genesis, it’s all on you!”

With that, he yanked off his white lab coat in a fit of anger, tossing it to the ground like a discarded relic of his pride. He swiped his access card with a flourish, storming out of the control room, leaving behind a charged atmosphere thick with tension.

“The annoying ass is gone. Now, let’s get back to work,” Helen remarked, her expression remaining unfazed as she turned her attention back to the screen, determination etched across her features.

Yet, despite her calm demeanor, Westin’s brow furrowed with concern. “Can this program really be cracked?” His voice wavered, the weight of their predicament pressing heavily on him.

“Don’t worry,” Helen reassured him, a smile creeping onto her lips that was colder than the steel of the control room. “As it happens, flushing out little rats is my specialty.”

A flicker of intrigue danced in her cool eyes as she prepared to take decisive action. Her fingers glided over the keyboard, issuing commands with confidence. “Teams 1, 3, and 5, I’ll open a pathway for you. Your task is to sever all external connection channels at the core stage!”

As massive data networks unfurled across the main screen, Helen’s focus sharpened.

“Teams 2, 6, and 10, activate the cleaning program immediately.” She had set the framework in motion the previous night; now it was time for them to execute the plan.

Once she delegated the tasks, Helen’s fingers danced across the keyboard, pulling up another interface. Her eyes, now sharp and focused, glinted with determination. “Tracking team, follow my lead.”

Some of the professionals still seemed oblivious to the fact that it was Helen who had performed the emergency repairs just hours before. They couldn’t shake the notion that this young woman was too inexperienced to command their trust.

Yet, as Westin had just expressed his concerns, one of the team members hesitantly asked, “How do we track them?”

They had been laboring tirelessly for fourteen hours since the incident, yet they still had no means to trace the attackers.

Helen didn’t miss a beat. Her fingers continued their relentless dance over the keys as she patiently explained, “As long as it goes through the network, there are always traces left behind. By analyzing the pathway traces the other party has left, we can track them down.”

“How can it be that simple? The other party will undoubtedly erase all traces.” Doubt lurked in the voice of one of her colleagues, skepticism evident in his tone.

“It’s actually quite straightforward,” Helen replied, her confidence unwavering.
