Kicked Out I Unlocked My Ultimate Boss Mode novel Chapter 49

**Chapter 49: The Gate Blocked**

Wendy wasted no time, her impatience bubbling beneath the surface as she observed William intently studying her contact card. With a swift and purposeful lift of her heel, she strode toward Helen, her expression molded into one of exaggerated concern, a mask that barely concealed her true intentions.

“Helen!” she called out, her voice slicing through the ambient noise like a sharp knife, demanding attention.

Upon reaching her, Wendy seized Helen’s arm with a grip that was both firm and unyielding, halting her in her tracks. “What on earth are you doing here?” she questioned, urgency lacing her voice in a way that starkly contrasted with the smile plastered on her face.

Wendy cast a fleeting glance at the guards stationed nearby, her demeanor shifting to that of a faux benevolent guardian. “You really need to leave this area immediately,” she insisted, her tone dripping with a syrupy sweetness that felt entirely insincere. “This is a national security zone, you know. Anyone who strays too close could easily be mistaken for a foreign spy. If those Department of Defense guards decide to take you away, it’s not just going to be embarrassing for you, but a massive hassle for everyone involved.”

Her finger jabbed toward Helen’s phone, punctuating her warnings with an exaggerated gesture. “You can’t use your phone here, and taking photos? Absolutely out of the question.” Tightening her grip on Helen’s arm, she leaned in closer, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “I get it, you just got back, and the urge to capture moments for social media is strong. I won’t fault you for being unaware of the rules. But please, come with me now. Don’t create trouble for the family.”

Every word she spoke was meticulously crafted to sound caring, yet they were steeped in ulterior motives, each sentence designed to draw the guards’ attention and paint Helen as a reckless girl intent on jeopardizing national security for the sake of a few snapshots.

To her astonishment, the Department of Defense guards remained entirely unmoved, their expressions stoic and unyielding, as if they had been trained to ignore the theatrics unfolding before them.

Helen, however, didn’t even spare Wendy a glance. Her focus remained unwavering, locked onto the access gate ahead, her determination radiating from her like heat from a flame.

William, who had been trailing behind, felt the sting of being sidelined by Wendy’s antics. His pride had taken a hit, but the moment he caught sight of Helen’s expression, a spark of surprise ignited in his eyes.

He adjusted his lab coat, ensuring the institute badge hung prominently, a silent declaration of his authority. Clearing his throat to regain his composure, he interjected, “Miss, Wendy has a valid point. This area is classified. Unauthorized individuals must maintain their distance.”

He scrutinized her youthful features, a mix of concern and condescension creeping into his voice. “You seem quite young. Don’t jeopardize your future just for a fleeting moment of attention.”

Straightening his coat again, he made sure the badge was clearly visible, as if that alone would lend him the credibility he so desperately sought. “If you’re genuinely curious about the institute, I could share some fascinating insights with you.”

Helen paused, her clear, intelligent eyes lifting to meet his gaze, a flicker of intrigue crossing her face.

Seeing her halt in response to him, William felt a swell of self-satisfaction, a rush of triumph coursing through him.

He flashed a smile he believed was charming, pushing his glasses up his nose with an exaggerated flourish. With newfound confidence, he began to boast about his achievements. “You probably don’t know this, but just last night at precisely eleven fifty, our core data registered a significant anomaly. The entire team has been working around the clock to address it. Honestly, if I hadn’t intervened, the whole system might have crashed.”

As he spoke, both girls turned their attention toward him, and he reveled in the moment, basking in the glow of their interest, feeling a thrill of exhilaration.
