Kicked Out I Unlocked My Ultimate Boss Mode novel Chapter 58

**Broken Doesn’t Mean End**
**By M. Kaushik**
**Chapter 58: She’s So Unfair**

Wendy’s eyes darted across the tray that Rebecca had just placed before her, a meager offering of a glass of milk and a few pitiful slices of bread. The simplicity of the meal felt like a slap in the face, a stark contrast to the sumptuous feast she imagined her sister Helen was enjoying.

Frustration simmered within her, a bubbling cauldron of emotions threatening to erupt. Just moments ago, she had witnessed Helen savoring a steaming bowl of congee, rich and inviting, the very essence of comfort that wrapped around you like a warm blanket.

And here she sat, relegated to mere scraps?

Rebecca, sensing the thick tension hanging in the air, reached out and gently clasped Wendy’s hand, her touch both familiar and soothing. “Wendy, I understand how much you long to be recognized by Professor Langford. You’ve poured your heart and soul into this, and your efforts have not gone unnoticed. But remember, you are a Walcott. Does the outcome really define your worth?”

“What truly matters is that you’ve tried your best. You’ve grown, learned, and become stronger on this journey.”

Her mother’s eyes sparkled with warmth, and her voice was a gentle balm. “You are remarkable in your own right.”

Yet, as those comforting words washed over her, they felt like a swarm of needles pricking at Wendy’s skin.

Results don’t matter? Learning along the way?

All of it seemed like nothing more than a veil to cover the blatant favoritism she felt was directed toward Helen! It was so unfair!

They simply didn’t care about her!

They acted as if they treated her as family, preaching fairness, but it was all a façade!

They could easily push someone like Helen—a complete slacker—into the prestigious National Institute of Research and Development, and even have Professor Langford shower her with kindness. Why couldn’t they extend the same support to her?

If they had just uttered her name when advocating for Helen, surely Professor Langford would have listened!

They were hoarding everything for Helen!

A deep, seething hatred churned within Wendy, so intense it felt like it could burst forth, spilling out like blood from a wound. Yet, on the surface, she merely looked wronged, tears streaming down her cheeks like a river of despair.

Finally, she broke, her voice trembling as she whispered, “Mom, am I truly that useless? Will Professor Langford ever consider someone like me?”

In that moment, she yearned for Rebecca to champion her cause, just as they had done for Helen.

But Rebecca merely wrapped her arms around Wendy, pulling her into a warm embrace, her touch comforting yet frustrating. “Oh, my sweet girl, you are truly amazing. If Professor Langford doesn’t choose you, it simply means that you two are not meant to be together. It doesn’t diminish your talent one bit.”

What nonsense! I know I’m good!

But it’s all pointless! In the end, power and money always win!

Wendy had toiled endlessly, following every possible path, yet Philip had chosen Helen, who hadn’t even finished her high school education.

The more she ruminated on it, the more bitterness seeped into her heart. Her eyes burned with unshed tears as she recalled the countless hours spent in the lab, the immense effort, the sacrifices she had made just to gain Philip’s approval.

Yet, Rebecca remained unwavering, continuing to comfort Wendy with her patient warmth, unwilling to intervene in any other way.

An overwhelming urge to scream surged within her. Her hints couldn’t have been clearer.

She assumed Rebecca was willfully blind to her pain. Surely, her mother didn’t want to help her forge a connection with Philip.

It must be Helen’s doing. She must have said something that turned Rebecca cold and made her refuse to assist!
