Her nonchalant attitude, even after he’d “exposed” her, only fueled his frustration. “If it’s about money, you don’t have to marry Haskell. I have money now. I can give you whatever you want. And I’m not a cripple. Isn’t that better than him?”
Larissa looked at him seriously. “Do you know what your biggest problem is, Torrin?”
He stared back, confused.
“You always assume the worst of me,” she continued. “Yes, I’ll admit I’m not the most emotionally expressive person, and maybe I wasn’t as affectionate as I could have been these last two months. But is this the first time you’ve realized that? We’ve known each other for two years. Why is it only now that you can’t stand it? Were you a masochist for the past two years, just begging for punishment?”
“If you truly wanted me to focus more on you, you should have worked on making yourself more present in my life, not expected me to slow down and pity you.”
Her words struck Torrin like a physical blow, and the color drained from his face.
Vivica, standing just behind Larissa, had heard every word. The Dillon heir was in love with her daughter? She hadn’t expected her to be in such high demand.
“My party is over,” Larissa said, her tone final. “If there’s nothing else, you should go home with your father and enjoy your new life as a wealthy young master. As you said, with your status, you’ll have no trouble finding a suitable wife from a good family. You can find someone who is clingy, attentive, and has eyes only for you.”
With that, she turned and walked toward her new parents.
“Larissa, I only want you!” Torrin called after her.
