“Sapphira, relax,” Neville said calmly. “Larissa isn’t like other girls. She has her own mind. Since she made the decision to marry Haskell, it means she’s fully prepared to face whatever comes next.”
“Besides, you saw how Haskell treated her tonight, didn’t you? With such unprecedented gentleness and concern. And Larissa did tell us she’s confident she can heal his legs. So, from every angle, this is a good match.”
His words didn’t completely ease Sapphira’s worries. She sighed. “I’m just afraid that Larissa is just a second choice for Haskell, someone he settled for after his accident. What if he regrets it once his legs are healed? You know how fickle the human heart can be…”
Neville smiled. “You saw our daughter tonight. If Haskell ever regrets his choice, he’ll end up like Paxton’s family, with his guts twisted in knots. I guarantee you, Paxton and his family won’t be sleeping tonight, all because of their terrible mistake.”
Sapphira’s expression brightened at his words, the furrows in her brow smoothing out. A relieved smile touched her lips. “You’re right. Larissa is so exceptional. If that Palmer boy doesn’t treasure her, he’ll be the one to regret it. Just like that Dillon boy. It’s too late for regrets now.”
...
“Dad, what did you want to talk about?” Finley asked as he followed his dad into the backyard pavilion, limping heavily.
Paxton’s eyes were fixed on his son’s right leg. “What happened to your leg?”
Finley looked away, unable to meet his father’s gaze. “I… wasn’t careful. Someone grabbed me and beat me up in an abandoned factory. I haven’t found out who it was yet, probably an enemy.”
“An enemy? In Regal City, there aren’t many people who would dare to lay a hand on the eldest grandson of the Judson family,” Paxton said, sensing his son’s evasion.
“I’ll find out who it was as soon as possible,” Finley replied.
Paxton’s frown deepened. He stepped closer. “Roll up your pant leg. Let me see.”
