Larissa's Game of Thrones (Larissa) novel Chapter 46

Haskell joked, “I guess I should be grateful it was my legs they broke and not my face they ruined.”

“A valid point,” Larissa said as she rolled up his pant legs to examine the injuries.

Haskell chuckled softly and began to tell his story. From him, Larissa learned the full truth behind his paralysis.

The Palmer family was large and sprawling. His father, Thatch Palmer, was the youngest of five siblings and was considered the least successful, looked down upon by his brothers and sisters from a young age. It wasn’t until Haskell grew up, his talents far outshining those of his cousins, that he earned the admiration of the family patriarch, Zoltan Palmer, and Thatch’s status in the family finally improved.

“I have a brother, Draven, who is five years younger than me. Not long after he was born, a fortune teller told my grandpa that my brother’s presence would negatively affect the family’s fortunes. Without a second thought, and against my mother’s wishes, my grandpa had him sent away.”

“No one knew where he was sent except for my grandpa and dad. After learning he was gone, my mother went searching for him alone and died in a tragic car accident. Once I had proven myself and earned Grandpa’s respect, I used the opportunity to ask him to bring my brother back. He agreed. Three years ago, Draven returned to the Palmer family, and with him came Valeria, a girl he grew up with at the orphanage.”

“Valeria wasn’t my biological sister, but thinking of how she had been by my brother’s side all those years, I treated her as my own. Last month, she was kidnapped. The kidnappers demanded I come alone to pay the ransom.”
