Larissa thought back to that first day in the village. Haskell truly was the man who had been poised to become the head of Regal City's wealthiest family. His perception was incredibly sharp. In her humble, mud-brick house, no one else would have given a second glance to the dried herbs on the wall.
But Haskell had not only noticed them, he had recognized their value. It meant he was a regular at the city's most exclusive auction house and had a keen eye for rare treasures.
"I see," she said.
"It's their loss that Paxton's family chose Honora over you," Haskell added.
Larissa took out her needle case and began the treatment. "They were dead to me the moment I learned they knew about the switch and did nothing to bring me home."
She deftly inserted a needle near Haskell's knee, her expression unreadable. "I came back to the Judson family for one reason: to make them pay for their cruelty by taking away everything they hold dear."
She looked up at him. "What about you? I hear a lot of people think you're about to lose your position as heir."
Haskell smiled. "Let them think that. It's a good opportunity to see who my real allies are and clean house."
"Well then," Larissa said with a smile of her own, "here's to both of us getting exactly what we want."

After leaving the gazebo, Finley called his secretary. She answered immediately, her voice frantic.
"Mr. Judson, why haven't you been answering my calls? I was so worried! I was about to come to your house to check on you."
"Ursa, call a car for me. I'm sending you my location," Finley said coldly.
