Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 277

Amelia’s gaze was icy as she looked over. “People like that…” she muttered, then said, “Finley, pull up the footage.”

Finley, unable to stomach Mogan’s baseless accusations any longer, took the tablet and zoomed in on the surveillance video, deliberately holding it out right in front of Mogan’s face.

But Mogan refused to look. “I don’t care about any of that. All I know is Violet got hurt.”

Finley was exasperated. “Look, there could be a hundred reasons she’s hurt. You can’t just ignore the evidence and blame someone blindly.”

Violet was still quietly sobbing. The sound was barely audible, but it set Mogan off. He snapped, “This isn’t the first time!”

He lashed out, knocking the tablet from Finley’s hands. It crashed to the floor. “This has happened over and over. Amelia’s always targeting Violet, acting like she can get away with anything just because she’s Mrs. Campbell. Violet’s been hurt again and again, all because of her! What’s left to argue?”

Amelia finally lost her patience and shot Mogan a sharp look. “Are you under some sort of spell or something?”

Clearly, he was under Violet’s spell—so much so that he’d lost the ability to think for himself.

Mogan didn’t even dignify her with a glance, completely ignoring her words.

Their relationship was worse than that of strangers. Even if Amelia had no business with Mogan, being dismissed like she was beneath notice was still infuriating. Her voice turned cold.

“If we can’t sort this out, let’s just call the police.”

Mogan glared at her. “I want you to apologize to Violet. Right now.”

Amelia’s tone was equally unyielding. “The police can decide who’s at fault.”

Mogan’s hands curled into fists at his sides. “I’ve never hit a woman before, but don’t think I won’t make an exception.”

He’d actually stooped to threats. Finley was about to step in when a tall figure moved protectively in front of Amelia.

Daniel, stuck in traffic and already in a foul mood, snapped, “There’s an accident up ahead! What do you want me to do, sprout wings and fly?”

Finley thought bitterly, If you don’t, your wife just might.

“She was here, but something happened and now Amelia’s already left.”

Daniel’s frustration exploded as he slammed the horn a few times. “You told me Amelia was at the club, so I rushed over—and you couldn’t even keep her there?”

Finley was just as frustrated. There was no way he could have stopped her in that mess. He could only say, “Just hurry up. Maybe you’ll catch up to them.”

Daniel latched onto that last word. “‘Them’? Who else is with her?”

“A guy with glasses, looks like the polite-but-sleazy type…” Finley’s eyes widened as realization dawned. “Wait a second—wasn’t that the same guy who had dinner with Amelia last time?”
